Need 2 new front tyres. Both worn on the inside so assume the tracking is out.

Tyres that I want are most reasonable from kwik fit. They charge £44+vat for tracking because it's done by a laser machine.

Others charge £28 ish.

Are kwik fit right in saying the latest technology kit is better and therefore is the charge reasonable? Seems a lot of dosh to me.

Add the price of tracking to the tyres and go for the cheapest place if that extra £16 means a lot to you.

not always. my last set wore on the inside heavily and it needed new suspension bushes.

Glasgowdan - if the £16 is worth it then fair enough. Just prefer not to be conned.

Car is only 1 year old/12k so be pretty pissed off if the bushes had gone

I had mine done at KwikFit. Could have had it done somewhere else for less but as the wheels were already off getting new tyres I thought "sod it", rather than spend time and petrol looking for somewhere else for a few quid less

Worn on either edge but okay across the rest of the tyre is usually a camber issue caused by something bent or worn in the suspension. Tracking causes a feathering effect across the whole width of the tyre.

Personally I'd go somewhere other than Kwikfit even if Kwikfit were cheaper (the same applies to tyres).

This.

I've posted about it before on here, but they did the alignment on my car, and gave me back a car with a steering wheel that pointed one way, and wheels that tried to steer into the opposite hedge. Two Kwikfit branches couldn't fix it.

Had my avensis done last week.
Quoted £40 for 4 wheel laser/computer tracking and adjustment.
Only needed front adjustment and got charged £20.
HiQ in Mansfield.

Kwik Fit were selling the BG44k fuel additive at a good price the other month.

25 to 30 quid is reasonable. I paid 45 to have a full 4 wheel laser alignment and watched them do it.

Never get Kwik fit to do anything without serious thought beforehand.

You should do a search on Kwikfit on this forum...

I'd consider Kwikfit if everywhere else was closed and I needed it right now.

Too many friends and family horror stories never mind Internet forums.

I'm sure there are people that are happy customers who got what they wanted though - it's not like they're on the ropes or anything.

15 to 20 quid. There's always a half price tracking deal available on the national tyres website.

I'd only pay 50 quid plus if I were having a car done with full 4 wheel adjustability, camber etc.
