nvidia quadro anything forget the gt cards they are pants
HD 4870 is what I have... but it really depends on what screen resolution you're running (I have a 1920x1200 27" monitor).
So, what size is your display and what's its max resolution?
nvidia quadro is purely for video editing isn't it? pant's for gaming AFAIK.
ATI 4850 or 4870 depending on how much each costs atm. I've had a 4850 for the past year and it's fab.
compositepro
The 8800 GT card is awesome. It'll play anything out now with ease at high reolution. One of the best bang per £ cards of all time.
HD4850 is smack on budget and will do you grand.
Better than 8800GT and runs cooler too.
HD4850 isn't a bad way to go. It performs just under 8800 Ultra (which is shown on chart above). 8800 will save you a few £s, for very little difference in performance - or you could add a second card for a few £s more than HD4850 and thrash it.
The GT cards are actually quadro cards with the features locked off
look it up on the web there used to be software mods to fully unlock the features but now you need to hack your Quadro card by physically soldering a few bits and bobs on but quadro cards arent so expensive on the bay anymore
Get a 4870x2 1 gig you know you want to.
Not sure you're right compositepro.
Sounds like quadro cards(never heard of before) are optimised for cad type stuff, cards such as 8800 GT for gaming - which the poster was after.
