Having looked at some of the monthly pictures, some are some great shots, just wondered what camera's you all are using out on the trails?? I ask as i took my dslr on hols and the pictures well were disappointing, im looking at replacing it with a digital compact so wondered what everyone else was using??

iPhone pictures are not the best quality but it's handy.

idave, have those been photoshopped? or originals??

I was using one of the original cybershots amazing 3.2mp but when i got my DSLR i took that instead, about a year ago the flash broke but the pictures came out ok. This is the first time ive took some shots and thought they just aren't up to scratch.

Canon g11 here. Most of the flexibility of a dslr but in a much more compact package. Not as nice to use as a dslr obviously. Great results though!

When I got it I was concerned it would be a bit too bulky - it isn't. And unless the market has changed significantly anything smaller doesn't have the features I wanted. Anything bigger would negate having a compact.

Carry the G11 in a large berghaus ecase that someone from here recommended - very good package.

Few shots:

I have had a Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ10 for two months now and i am very impressed with it. It has 25mm Wide angle equiv lens, 14 ish MP, 12x optical zoom with a very efficient optical image stabiliser. It also as near HD stereo video recording and built in GPS. The best bit is the full manual settings.

All for around £240!

I've been using a TZ7 but tbh I find it too bulky and it feels delicate. Good for touristing- it had a good day today at an airshow- but I've gone off it as a bike camera. I don't take it to festivals either for the same reason- my old Ixus felt unkillable, it got battered to hell, dropped off a motorbike, completely immersed in water, and filled with sandstorm dust in australia and it's still going. This thing feels like if I drop it once it'll die, it probably won't but I don't trust it...

So, going to get me something smaller and a bit more rugged feeling, an Ixus 130 probably but kind of tempted by an FP2.

el_boufador, how are you liking it for closer up action shots - are the lens and AF fast enough for that sort of thing? I'm once again on the look out for a compact/bridge camera and really can't decide what to do. Worried about something like the G11 with a built in lens not being flexible enough, and I really like to manual focus with a focus ring rather than pressing buttons.

_tom_ I would say it is good - for a compact.
However coming from a dslr it is nowhere near as good. In addition to lens/af being slower I find a lot of the difficulty with that sort of shot is in having a restricted viewfinder / screen to work with on the G11. Nowhere near as good as a proper viewfinder on DSLR for capturing action. That's the compromise though I guess.

Could always just sack capturing the action off and leave the shutter open

I didn't take this pic out on a ride, but I could easily have done so, it's just off part of a Sustrans route I ranger on.
Like to hazard a guess what I used to take it this afternoon?

I got a GoPro Hero HD. So many uses. Takes pretty good snaps as well as HD footage.

Got any sample stills? Can't seem to find many on t'internet but am interested as if they're good enough it seems like it might be worth the money. There are some samples on the GoPro site but most seem to be from the burst or photo every x seconds mode - is this the same image size/quality as stills mode or video?
