Instant, no-expenses spared transport to any past / current / future?? sporting event as a spectator. What would it be? I'd love

Night slalom at Schladming surrounded by sauced-up locals
Day-night cricket on a warm evening at the Adelaide Oval
An balmy evening at the now-defunct Jack Murphy stadium watching the San Diego Chargers
A late-stage Champions League match at Anfield (love a night match)
Knicks vs Celtics at Madison Square Garden
Dutch Corner on the Alpe d'Huez
PDC Darts at Ally-Pally
2012 London velodrome gold medal hoovering session (I was outside)
2012 Super Saturday (I went the following Wednesday)

Ah, i don't know how many European games i've seen at Anfield, but there's quite a few...

Although possibly topped by Real Madrid v Liverpool with Yossi scoring the winner at the Bernabau....

Dutch Corner on the Alpe d’Huez

Been there, watch from the comfort of your telly...It's let's say "pungent?  Imagine thousands of pissed up Dutchmen, no facilities...It's grim

Murray's first Wimbledon must have been pretty special.

England's rugby World Cup win too. Didn't even get to see it all on TV - spent most of the first half down at the local police station having ran someone over early that morning. (it was her fault. She lived.)

Mansell’s win at Silverstone when he did Piquet over

Not a massive footy fan but the 66 WC final has to feature.

A Chicago Bulls championship winning game back in their heyday.

But to be honest nothing will top the actual Tour going passed my actual front door in the murky depths of Sheffield. I mean it’s not something I ever even dreamed of happening given how unlikely it was to actually happen. Then it did…

Good shout. I live a couple of miles from Holme Moss. It really did happen.

1966

I just hope that in my lifetime I get to see us win it again (I was born in 1967 and still have a very, very dim recollection of the 1970 edition).

Saw his first win at Brand's Hatch, I was gutted as Piquet's car blew up and I was a big Piquet fan.

I'd like to go back and see the Bears win Superbowl XX, particularly as they've done sweet FA since. Useless.

Foreman v Frazier I
Ali v Foreman
Hagler v Hearns

I did see Leonard v Hagler live, but on a cinema screen. I had the shivers of excitement all the way through. Don't really get like that about anything these days. 🙁

Rugby - I'd like to have seen Will Carling's England in the 5 nations. The one where he was carried off on the shoulders.
Or the Lions match where Jezza drop-kicked for the win.

****stan / India test at one of the big indian grounds.  that would be unlike any sporting event elsewhere.  100 000 fans all cheering, dancing, setting off flares etc - at a cricket match!

I'd love to watch the start of either the Vendee or Volvo Round the world yacht race, from a rib seeing the yachts fully powered up and charging away.

1935 German Grand Prix, Nuvolari beating the Auto Union and Mercedes.
1934 America’s Cup, Endevour vs Rainbow
1914 Schneider Cup, Sopwith Schneider beating the fancied French opposition.

I hate to tell you but on the Vendee they don't power up immediately so they can check systems they wait a few hours it seems!!
I agree with your choices though and will add watching last years Americas Cup from the deck of a superyacht - Seeing them fly past at 40-50 knts must be amazing.

Some of the old (1990)Paris-Dakar stages from a helicopter, then getting dropped off ahead to watch them fly over some of the big dune sections.

Those stupidly steep (motorbike) hill climbs in America.

Winter Olympics somewhere nice.
Summer Olympics somewhere nice.

A WRC Night stage

I'm a NFL and College Football fan so I would say in no particular order and based upon fan experience for the whole day...

Louisiana State Game @ Death Valley

Green Bay Packers @ Lambeau

Michigan v Ohio State at either stadium I'm not fussy.

Florida @ The Swamp

Penn State @ Beaver Stadium

Texas v Oklahoma  - Red River Rivalry game at the Cotton Bowl

Army vs Navy game.

Ole Miss @ Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/The Grove

To be honest most SEC and Big 10 teams have great Stadiums, fans and atmosphere.

Patriots @ Foxboro (because they are my team)

Rose Bowl Game because:

Got back into watching the NFL in the last couple of years and this year has seen some epic games. Rams have always been my team and I watched a Youtube vid on the SoFi stadium last night, I would love to be at the Superbowl on Sunday!

I'd go back to ancient Rome and the Coliseum.

And I'd take the current Westminster cabinet with me to feed fight the lions.

Oh, and I'd take Trump, Farage and Katie Hopkins as well.

You're welcome.

Things I wish I'd been present at (as opposed to watching on telly).

1922 Scottish Cup final. The best one ever. 100 years ago this April 15th.

1990 Murrayfield. David Sole leading the team slowly onto the pitch.

2012 Olympics. Chris Hoy winning the keiren.

2019 England - New Zealand. Possibly the most amazing ending to a sporting match ever.

Events I'd love to attend:-

An Ashes test match in Oz.

A one day match in India or the West Indies.

Stone skimming championships in Easdale (though am planning to go there this year).

The last stage of the Tour in Paris.

A mountain stage of the Giro in with the Tifosi.

Dutch corner (Tour again).

Olympic badminton.

Scotland beating England in '67 with Jim Baxter running the show.
Aberdeen's Cup Winners Cup campaign, or at least the quarter final against Bayern and the Final against Real Madrid.
And hopefully watching my son compete at the Commonwealth Games this summer. I know it's "only" the Commonwealth Games but we'll be so chuffed for him if he makes it especially after the trials and tribulations of the last two years.

@fasthaggis
I went to see a night stage of the WRC while I was studying in France. My German housemate was a huge fan and dragged us to the Monte Carlo rally stage on the Col de Torini.
I didn't really know much about it, but it was incredible!

The Tour going through Yorkshire looked incredible
Any Superbowl
Not a Utd fan, but the Champions League final in 1999 must have been amazing

2 minutes of it was! The previous 90 or so really wasn't. Was a great experience being there though especially experiencing the Nou Camp half filled with your own fans.

I'd love to have seen one of the Watson/Eubank/Benn epics. Saw Benn at the Ally Pally for a British belt and the atmosphere was electric and quite intimidating.

Curse you 🙂

I went to all the knockout matches at Pittodrie (except the bloomin Bayern Munich game). Thought about going to the final but had my final exams two weeks later so skipped it.

Stupid mistake.

Good fun in Aberdeen that night though.

I'd like to see Palace win a trophy.
Twice FA cup finalists, twice beaten by Utd.

Maybe this year?

APF

(and no, the Zenith Data Systems Cup doesn't really count).

Ooo good shout on some rally action. But it would have to be Group B when the cars were mental and the crowds even more so...

Nothing "only" about it. Still a huge sporting event and a brilliant reward (fingers crossed he makes it) for a lot of hard work and dedication. Hope there's a big crowd allowed in to cheer him on.

What sport is it?

1966

I watched on telly with my Dad he said he'd have loved to be there.
I told him I wish I'd known as that morning at school assembly they announced that two people had dropped out of the school trip to Wembley that afternoon. I seem to think tickets, coach and a packed lunch was under a tenner each.

He never looked me the same after that. Heck I was only 13...

I’m not in the slightest bit interested in watching sport but my grandad played for the Barbarians in the 1920s so it would have been pretty cool to see him play (he died before I was born so I never got to meet him).

Would love to see Leeds United win something like the FA Cup at Wembley, or the final game of winning the Premier League. It could be a long wait (certainly for the latter).

Brazil 2008 and Canada 2011.
.
Best atmosphere I have ever experienced at a sporting event was standing on the start line of the Megavalanche. That was awesome.

Game 7 of the 2001 Stanley Cup finals, when Colorado Avalanche captain Joe Sakic broke tradition & handed the cup to defenseman Ray Bourque to lift after beating New Jersey Devils.

https://flic.kr/p/2gyDadk

Either that or a game 7 with Toronto & Montreal or Calgary & Edmonton.

My daughter competing at this years world championships (dinghy racing in her class).
She couldnt go last year due to covid as travel restrictions tightened 2 weeks before the event and its her last year in this class. Stands a good chance of getting on the podium.

I would love the be in the velodrome for the Paris Roubaix finish.
Always wanted to be at the boxing day ashes test match.
Any NFL game.

Possibly another thread, but

I did see England regain the ashes at Durham in 2013. Took my dad, that was a day.
I also saw the rugby League world cup final at Old Trafford.
Also saw my home town football club play at Wembley. Gateshead, we lost bit we are on our way back!

10m diving. He's just won the mixed synchro event at the British Cup and that was their first competition. They just need to get their score from 264 points to 288 to qualify so well within their reach. On Sunday he does the individual event, he needs approx 410 points to qualify, his pb is 370 but he's improving all the time. If he goes I might wear a kilt for the first and only time.

First few rows of a heavyweight championship bout between two equally matched pugelists at Madison Square Gardens.
The Masters.
Boxing Day MCG
Any of the great summits of the TdF and Paris Roubaix velodrome.

Edit _: if there's any golf fans here I can recommend paying for the final practice day of the Open. You get much closer to the players bar the superstars.
