Once we've pulled out of the EU, and closed the borders, who will we blame for everything then? Will we turn in on each other, starting with minorities and anyone who does a job that the mob don't understand the value of? Just idly wondering…

Sorry, back on topic… if it was only Italy that was having to account for all its dodgy off the books commerce, people would be saying “quite right”, and there would be no uproar over here at all.

Well UK officials were involved in these changes - if the PM is (really?) shocked and surprised he should look internally first. Unlike Farage he claims to want to stay in Europe. In which case he needs to understand how it works.

But telling it straight leaves you hostage to Farage and Boris and their interpretations of reality!!!! Folk don't like or vote for reality as Salmond knew only too well.

I did, and an independent Scotland would have wanted to stay in the EU. Instead we face being dragged out of the EU against our wishes.

Really? as I recall it the polling on whether the people of Scotland wanted EU membership was at best mixed at worst strongly opposed, but it's not like Alex was ever going to give them a referendum on the issue....

It's seems quite ridiculous that there is a formula for the calculation of this tax which takes into account the black market economy which by its very nature is largely unknown.

It only seems ridiculous if you don't know anything about economics or accounting.

Seems to me that ire is being pointed in the wrong direction. If these are agreements we signed up to and we knew that a bill was coming, why didn't the government/relevant civil servants have this in hand? Is it that different to domestic economics?

No, they did, they were actively involved - it's just that this (facts) doesn't make good headlines.

Perhaps we should state that we'll only pay when the auditors sign off the EU accounts as being without material levels of fraud and error?

Nice knee-jerk reaction there....you should be a headline writer for the Mail!

Well he seems to be facing stiff competition from you, in the emotive knee-jerk category.

I know exactly what I said & stand by it: A bill of nearly £2b when that money is sorely needed here is not going to help the EU make friends...

God not this again
The reason they cannot sign them off [ its not true that bit is it] is because the fraud happens at the member level who receive the money and distribute it

If i give you 3 million and you commit fraud with it it is not my fault.

you may also like to look at our own house and MOD in particular before throwing stones.

I want to say something about camerons fake indignation or the BBCs toadying coverage of his fake indignation but I simply cannot find the strength to do it.

Classic British farce normally leaves me happy and amused, but this leaves me feeling weak and helpless:

Am I really here ?
Am I really alive ?

I was thinking more of your emotive knee-jerk comment which I linked to.

The whole minimum wage/top up with tax credits act performed by the big corporates/government is blatant corruption.

So Cameron is happy enough to change tax laws and demand retrospective payment and happy enough with the recalculation of these payments when it's benefited the UK, but now is kicking up a fuss when we have to pay? ****ing ridiculous. He should just get on with it and pay it instead of helping UKIP with his faux outrage.

Oh, and another Indyref point - we were told that Scotland refusing to share the UK debt would be a Very Very Bad Thing for our credit rating.

So how's this going to affect the UK's credit rating?

By "this" do you mean the budget adjustment? If so, why would it?

Refusing to pay a debt.

Well it's not about bond holders is it? It's about our budget payment to the EU.

CMD will pay it - it's just an act. You know bluff and bluster and all that stuff.... 😉

I did not think this payment referred to any kind of debt. Is this incorrect?

There's a few things I don't understand about this, but the main thing is, 'Why isn't Ernie a politician'?
