I desperately want to use Chrome as my web browser because I find IE and Firefox hideously slow to start up. The problem is when I try and watch stuff on Freecaster with Chrome it is like watching a flick book i.e. the video is jerky.

I have tried un-installing and reinstalling Adobe Flash Player

Any ideas?

I'm still using Firefox as my default browser as I've had a couple of issues when using Chrome (half written forum messages disappearing was one of them). But I've just tried freecaster in Chrome and it seems to run just fine. How are other video-based sites, a la Youtube, etc.?

it also occasionally buggers up in Safari on my Mac (also using the WebKit engine that Chrome uses). Often it says "stream not found". Most annoying.

Was fine for the downhill last weekend though.

I reckon that's probably more likely to be due to freecaster rather than the browser. I've had no end of trouble watching streams of the world cup in Firefox and IE so far this year. I think they're just a victim of their own success at the moment.

I thought that at first, but I can watch the stream in IE or Firefox (or Safari for that matter) with no probs, then switch to Chrome and I'm back with the naff stream.

I'm no Chrome-addict, but the speed of Firefox when starting up (and IE) is appalling. Maybe someone has a fix for that. I tried Safari for a few minutes and gave up when I couldn't find the home button.

Depends really:

Personally I found Chrome to buggy to use - especially the disappearing post text. Firefox starts pretty speedily on my box anyway. I suspect the soon to be release Firefox 3.5 will improve on that.

Thanks for the stats but it doesn't depend for me on my system. Chrome starts in a few seconds, Firefox takes 1/2 minute plus. Without exception (so far)

The irony being that I never thought about browsers until I moved away from IE. It just did what it should but I was tempted to try something else for a change. Now it is just one more thing to waste my time on. Go back to IE?? Nah, it's super slow to start too.

I had the same problem watching Freecaster in Chrome. Just went back to Firefox for the video and it was fine.
Not going to worry to much about it, just use a different browser if it doesn't work properly in Chrome.

Blimmin heck. That is a bit on the long side!

Do you have loads of adds-ons running for Firefox?
Is your PC seriously ancient or lacking in memory?

You could try Minefield which is the pre-release version of firefox. Seems to start quicker to me but that may be because there aren't as many plug-ins available for it yet. Stuff like flash runs really quick though.
I like Chrome for it's speedy opening on my little Asus Eee, but for proper browsing it's firefox for me for a while.
