That Laco is lovely if it has some lume.
It's on laco's own site count. €340 + shipping
Had one of the miyota Laco’s years ago. It was nice and ultimately made me by a Stowa which was nicer
mind you I moved that on as well
There's a few Lacos I really like, the Squad watch I linked to earlier and also their modern pilot watch, the Frankfurt - not a great name that tbf.

Can we please talk about watches. Anything but consume and participate in other media.
Of course, I could also continue (re)reading Asimov. Would you wear a watch if you always had a robot with you?
Really good watch story on About Effing Time. It does include people being nice to each other as well as the watches - I hope that's OK?
And a watch question - my mother in law has been offered a vintage Omega by one of her friends who by all accounts is a bit of a collector. Assuming it's 1950s/60s how much would a service cost?
Depends but a standard 2 or 3 hander, with or without a date complication, manual or auto, should find a good independent that would get it running well for under £300. Which could well be about the cost of the watch.

I'm liking the look of this latest release from Baltic.
GP too dressy.

Breguet too yellow goldie but only tried for fun.

GO far too rose goldie but was only trying for size, which I like.

The Breguet looks a bit too nineteenth century carriage clock for me. Does it come with matching dueling pistols?
Just been let down after making massive efforts on a sale, including being patient enough to CASH A CHEQUE!!! It bounced and now he says he's not interested. #####
So...I'm sorry but I'm giving myself a lift by mentioning that there may a Samurai in the classifieds for a great price.
I'm having the same with mine on chrono24 Derek. "I'll buy it at this price" turns into "I'll ignore the offer and never contact you again". Had someone practically shout at me through the Messaging thing that my Seiko GMT was too expensive, only for him to have forgotten the conversation and make a higher bid on my watch again 3 days later.
One bloke in the US wanted the Glycine, but didnt want to pay the delivery costs. Why then ask about a UK based watch?
For the Zenith Chronomaster Sport fans ( @neilnevill ) here's their latest offering after last weeks pink, pink, you stink offering. What's the collective view? I think it's nicer than the ceramic bezel. Old school Daytona stylee...

It's nice but I much prefer the ceramic bezel. It's nice though
I think I prefer the ceramic as well, but if someone else is paying I’d not say no.
I'm in. I prefer metal bezels.
I like it, but it’s too close to my Aquaracer to buy. BTW my wife - surprisingly - liked the pink one, as a man’s watch.
Assuming it’s 1950s/60s how much would a service cost?<br /><br />
Deacon and Sons in Swindon, Marlborough and Royal Wootton Bassett charged me £465 for a service and replacement mainspring on my Yema Rallygraf, which I was ok with, it meant a lot to me. One sold at auction in London shortly after for £3800, so that made me even happier.
That Laco is lovely if it has some lume.
Everything white on the face and hands is lume, so perfectly legible after dark. Another reason I like it.
Evening chaps. I've been in Paris twice in a row this week! Sort-of-interview at the Sorbonne yesterday, Chinese visa today. You saw yesterday's watches but I shan't trouble you with all today's. Let's concentrate on JLC Master Control Moon, 37 vs 40. First up we have a 2006 model, serviced last year (so they say...) with box and papers.

And then the current model, 40mm, white dial only (as the LE blue is sold out, new at least). Price on these is now insane, over €17k. And I don't like white/silver dials usually.

If I can get away with the 37 then it's an option, in steel, white gold or even platinum.
I like the silver one a lot, very pretty watch.
I like the white dial 40mm
Same, white dial 40mm for me also.
Ha ha, well you're all welcome to it! €15400 UK RRP....
There are examples of the LE blue dial floating around, below RRP but I'm just not convinced by the dial layout, even if the solarised blue is very nice.

The steel 37mm offers black dial (as above) with sapphire case back on a pretty decent movement. However, in white gold 37mm there is a solarised grey option, which is tempting as I have mostly full black dials.

And then there is a LE platinum case blue dial 37mm, which is very yummy and I prefer to the current LE as it doesn't have the 'Quantième à date sautante' plastered on the dial.

Both the white gold and platinum versions (luxury yet discreet white metal for everyday use) have a hunter case back, which is pretty damn cool.

Ergo, the current model, standard and LE, are bonkers overpriced at RRP and even with 20% negotiated are ferocious for a steel watch. Going 37mm in steel or white gold would actually give me the opportunity to get a Master Moon AND a standard (time-only) Blancpain Fifty Fathoms titanium blue dial... The platinum version would, admittedly, eat the whole potential budget.
So, what do you reckon to the 37mm on my wrist and/or in the grey dial??? Help! (Luckily I leave on my round-the-world trip this Saturday and won't be able to do anything on this for a while...)
Sorry, that should be £15400 UK RRP, not used to the pound sign on an AZERTY keyboard!
Grey dial is too dark and very poor contrast with the moonphase. So thats a no from me......
Anyone got any tips on selling my watches? They are not going and I thought I’d priced keenly, so now I’ve a choice of flogging them cheaply on eBay or just keep an extended collection of items of which most I won’t wear again.
I appreciate some people have 10’s of watches in storage and barely wear most of them, but I’m too indecisive to have lots of watches in my peripheral vision. <br /><br />
what to do?
Not much in the toy department is selling at mo unless it’s v.cheap or something special. Watches, bike parts, motorbikes, cars, you name it. I buy and sell a lot on eBay and the like and I’ve hardly sold anything of late, very much a buyers market, hence picking up my Seamaster now for a good deal. I’d sit on them for now unless you really need rid to balance the books.
That hunter’s case is very nice . There’s something about the blue platinum face, I find a bit jarring - don’t know if it is just the picture. The jl motif a bit larger?
@SSS, the grey dial is here - https://www.chrono24.com/jaegerlecoultre/jaeger-lecoultre-master-control--id29320945.htm. An Italian dealer and I could try to do a straight swapsie for my Milgauss (now in the EU we have to think about a new tax on private sales, 6.5% of the total, whether you're in the black or not...).
@kilo, the blue dial Pt is on sale with Watchbox (also C24) https://www.chrono24.com/jaegerlecoultre/master-moon-q143648a--id30342985.htm, and they do tend to take quite stark images. The actual watch is in Hong Kong but they flight it to their nearest outlet.
But what do you think on fit? My Explorer 1 39mm is a perfect size for daily. 44mm Oris is a bit overwhelming but passable when casual. 37mm.... all depends on the lugs and thickness.
@kryton57, I don't know where the UK is on taxing private sales but if you can wait, just stick to your price. There is occasionally someone who bites.
My jlc moon is 39mm irc. It feels a wide watch but as it is slimmer than everything I usually wear (a thunderbird, a breitling or a seiko) it sort of balances out. I thnk 37mm would be fine
Thanks Kilo. The 40mm JLC is a lot thicker than the 37mm, so the wearing experience is very different. What a lot of time I waste thinking about all this... 😀
I thought youd be looking at a steel case version, and not precious metal case which i think youd mentioned before that you were shying away from gold/platinum.
Prefer the lighter dials such as silver, and id go for stainless. Cleaner crisper dial face and nicer contrast effect.
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/jaegerlecoultre/master-calendar-silver-dial-q1558420--id30317287.htm
I very nearly bought a new one, but got the Patek instead back in 2017.
As to size, thats a very personal thing, but if the photos show 37mm then id be happy with that sizing. I wear a mid size 36mm SMP, but i have very slim wrists.
Well, gold and platinum should be off the table but I'm a bit 'why not'. That said, I took an absolute soaking on the bike this morning, and I have wet wooden bridges = potential falls...
I see there was a 39mm steel Master Moon but only in a silver dial or.... a meteorite dial! That's pretty funky and I do very occasionally encounter Widmanstätten microstructures in my work. However, none on sale in Europe so far as I can see.

For me thats the best one so far.
Thanks for the advice on sticking it out. I do have the "for sale" watches boxed up so out of site, and am enjoying the rather more specific easy-to-decide use of the six that remain.
Currently enjoying the Arnie whilst WFH this week, such a classic presence.
It's pretty special isn't it, but the prices are right up there.... I could haul my boxed Milgauss around the world until I get to the US and try for a part-ex, but I already paid €1800+ tax when I bought it, and don't fancy getting hit up for more!
I'm planning on having a sell off - the Elliot Brown doesn't get enough wrist time, the Springfield GMT wasn't the watch I thought I was ordering (literally, I ordered the wrong colour) and the Orients feel like an un-finishable collection.
Both the white gold and platinum versions (luxury yet discreet white metal for everyday use) have a hunter case back, which is pretty damn cool.<br /><br />
Ummm, what’s it for? Your own personal coke tray?
I’m really not a fan of watches like the J leC, or textured/sunburst dials, but that meteorite dial on the J leC above is really rather nice! There’s a Speedy Moonwatch going for auction soon, one of 35, that were sent up to the Mir space station for a year, to allow Omega to see what, if any, changes they might undergo during an extended period in microgravity. Apparently there were none. Comes with a fully engraved caseback, certifications, a video, and other gubbins. It ain’t going to be cheap, though.

Snuff, of course.
How could I miss that 🤦🏻♂️
I blame my lacking education
However, one should also polish off all that nasty perlage to leave a perfectly smooth surface with which to admire one's smug face!

I'm on the look out for a moon phase watch, one that's not so busy, and less spendy.
Quite pretty and not so spendy....

Kind of you to 'cut out the middleman' SSS! 😀
For that money I'd be going with an Orient Sun & Moon.
For that money I’d be going with an Orient Sun & Moon.
I believe the Orient isn't a calendar display, its a day / night.
I do like this ...
Sent my Omega SMP off to Calibre for service today. I bought it in 1998 and got the 36mm, mid size. I always regretted this decision as my wrists arn't particularly small at 7" and I could have sized up.
I have a lot of time on my hands at present and can't do too much following a bike accident. So been looking at watches, thinking of replacin the Omega. Was originally looking at the Longines Zulu time but ceramic bezel is quite glossy. Tried on the new burgundy Black Bay on 3 link bracelet which was nice. Also quite liked the Breitling Superocean Heritage in black with the rubber sttrap. They both seem like obvious choices and having been down that road before with the SMP I started looking at Vertex Aqualion.

Really enjoyed watching this, and I'm not a fan of Ed Sheeran so that surprised me

The "I thought one would be enough" rings true for all of us 😂
Who has more concurrent watches than bikes? For watches, I topped out at about 30 two years ago, with covid-powered frivolous spending. Now down to about 8, and happy to whiitle further. Bikes maximum (if we don't count my overseas fieldwork fleet) maxed at 7 or 8, now down to 4: stainless steel road bike, alu tourer, steel full suss and titanium hardtail. Could I get down to 4 watches? I think so, if i get this big piece ive been droning about for yonks. Anyway, I can still keep the collecting habit going with hats, Lego and medieval weaponry.
Does anyone else find themselves adjusting the size of their watch bracelet through the day?
The micro-adjust gets slackened in the morning and then tightened during the day. Otherwise it’s either too tight in the morning or sloppy in the evening.
Just me?
I got a couple of watches for my 30th. 14 years on the bracelets are exactly the same size.
No micro adjusting for me.
It’s a diurnal thing not an annual thing.
Maybe I’m odd.
Common for wrists to swell a little when warm, hence clasps with on the fly micro adjust.
It’s the main reason I don’t wear bracelets much, always seem to 1/2 an adjustment from perfect. My CW has a micro adjust and I’m always pissing about with it.
@richpips, that looks lovely, and got me googling Seiko's. I'm still inclined to get an original orange Monster.
But gosh the new Alpinist GMT is a good looking thing:

It reminds me of the Carrera Glassbox, yet £4k cheaper:

I tried the Carrera on the othyer day; but with a white face, brown strap. Lovely watch.
Why has that Seiko got a male member on the dial?
Why has that jlc got a hunter case back? Why protect the back?
Orange monster is something that appeals to me too, but the Starkey is cheaper and better.
Starkey? Tell me more please?
I find the outright refusal to chat bikes in this remote corner of the forum hilarious. Oh well, I'm transiting through Bahrain so I thought the S****ch Massif deserved some SMPorn...

The Rolex stand is pretty comical, just row after row of iced out Daydates.

Which goes well with the gold jewellery on sale, minimum karat 21 and up to 24!

They had nowt to fear of a purchase from me! However, I'm happy they make you happy 😊
Sorry, typo...Sharkey
Ah…. But no. Whilst I get the value of the homage to the Monster, it’s not a Monster. I want an original to collect alongside the Samurai and Arnie.
So today’s wrist shot has a vintage vibe…..Dad’s 1967 Constellation just back from STS. New crystal, new crown, new rotor, new various bits and bobs and seals and screws and and and ….
and yes I know it’s showing tomorrows date but I forgot about the date adjust thing.
@Kryton57. I have an original black monster boxed with papers that I want to get rid of if of interest?
Just as a kind of side point to this thread, if anyone's wanting their watch serviced I can heartily recommend Olivier at www.onatelier.co.uk
He did my speedmaster recently and it's now in superb fettle, including a refresh/repair due to some water damage and sourced a genuine Omega hesalite crystal for me, which are getting v hard to find. Great communication & photos throughout the whole process.
Dad was a great singer, and performed with a couple of choirs and a choral society. I've followed in his footsteps and now regularly need to perform in evening dress and various other formal get-ups, so I had the watch refurbed so that I can take him on stage with me. I think he'd appreciate it. Casino Royale notwithstanding, the divers don't feel right, and the AT still feels a bit sporty especially in black tie.
Those Rolex above 🖕🏼are just ghastly things! 🤮 Not keen on the Omegas either, but that’s purely down to the skeletonised hands; like arrowhead hands I just don’t find them attractive to look at. The Seiko MM300 is one of the best looking watch faces ever, for me, followed by the Sword hands used by Sinn, and a few others.
I’ve more or less stopped considering getting another watch, I’m wearing my SPORK pretty much full time, and I’ve got my TAG Series 1000 running, and my RallyGraf, all of which are watches that are starting to appreciate in value, and I’ve got the cheap Heimdallr homage watches for when I don’t want to worry about damage. Or theft, for that matter.
Rather than spend a couple of £k on a watch, I’m going to get a pair of proper, custom-fit in-ear monitors made up, something that I know I’m going to be using very frequently, and both appreciate and benefit from a comfort and quality point of view.
That doesn’t mean that if a MM300 presented itself for an impossible to resist price I wouldn’t turn away! 😁
Speaking of the SPORK, I adjusted it back on May 1, and I’ve been keeping an eye on its performance, and it’s been moving backwards and forwards between about fifty seconds fast or slow across the course of each month - currently it’s 14 seconds slow, so it’ll be interesting to see how it stands when the clocks change at the end of the month.
Certainly, being a bit less than a minute out either way is as close to perfect time-keeping as I’m concerned, tbh! 😁
@scapegoat that really is wonderful. I’ve really become to appreciate the stories and emotional attachment behind peoples collections and yours is a brilliant one, restoring and wearing your dads timepiece in reflection of his past, what a fantastic reason to be wearing the watch.
@theflyingox, thanks for the link I noticed he does Seiko mods also, I might drop him an email as I’d like to get sapphire crystal in my Arnie one day.
@kneebiscuit could you please drop a note & pic to my email at kryton57 at sky dot com? I’d love to have a look but can’t promise to buy immediately as I have a leaky roof repair or pay for.
