Right I have an interview at 9am on Thursday in Warrington, Now to get the train from Sheffield to Warrington would mean getting the 6.20 train, arriving at 8am. Giving me an hour to spare.

I have the offer of a lift, google says it will take 1.30 hours, however what would the route be like at rush hour?

Should i take the safe option of getting the train?

An before some bright spare says it...now I'm not commuting on my bike 🙄

I would very much doubt you could get from Sheffield to Warrington in 1 1/2 hrs at rush hour, Glossop is a right pig to get through at the best of times let alone rush hour. 1 1/2 hrs would be a good fast run through, certainly not rush hour.

Train, although where is the interview?, I travelled this a lot years ago and the train was fast and easy whereas by car is the pig of travelling one of the pennine routes which is a chore...

There's horrendous roadworks in Glossop at the moment and the whole area (Glossop/Hadfield right through to the M67) is notorious for bad traffic. I'd go with the train option - yes it's an early start but Sheffield - Manc is a good reliable line, some nice views and you'll have the chance for a coffee and bit of relaxation at the other end before the interview.

Good luck. 🙂

It will take at least 2 hours by car at rush hour, possibly much longer. Train will be more predictable timing wise.

Warrington is notorious for traffic problems, although it's not generally that bad. The main problem is having motorways to the north, south and east. When motorway congestion is bad, drivers take a 'shortcut' through the town, and clog up the system for local drivers.

And there's only one high level bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal. The others are swing bridges, which close for ten minutes or so, as ships pass through the town.

But we enjoy moaning about the traffic - we even complain if our journeys are quicker than expected!

Great Sankey is the wrong side of Warrington from Sheffield, and getting across Warrington can be a nightmare, any problems on the M6 and the town gridlocks.

Should only be 10 minutes taxi from warrington central to gt sankey against traffic, half of warrington will be catching a train into Manchester so plenty of taxis around I expect.

Having lived in both places I have to say Sheffield has much more going for it... (especially mountain biking wise!)

2nd Porterclough. Don't be complacent about your timing of journey from station! Good luck!

Watch out for fat bastids that think they are funny.
