Looking for something hard wearing, water resistant, warm and long for early morning winter dog walks. I do have a nice Rohan Frostpoint 100 one but the pup has wrecked it with snag tears so definitely needs to be hard wearing...

Don’t want to use waterproof trousers so looking for something longer than active wear jackets, as I already have a Montane Extreme jacket for proper winter walks.

I did have a North Face McMurdo parka in my basket but wanted to look at alternatives !

Dryrobe? Very hard wearing and can go over the top of another coat if it's really cold!
Built like a tank, huge pockets.

Nobeer, aye, maybe a step to far for me down the style stakes 😜

Have seen a similar Didrikson one for less than half the price !

You must be in a proper rough area. Most other places cockapoo owners need Canada Goose Expedition jackets when walking to the coffee van in the park.

I’m all for nice kit when riding / getting out in the hills but for walking the dog just old kit or cheap stuff and wellies . It’s going to get wet and muddy most days  so I don’t want something I need to be worrying about reproofing or washing carefully , decathlon hiking stuff is pretty decent for the money and not so expensive that I feel the need to feel guilty about just hanging it up in the garage until the next dog walk .

For that spec I would look at military surplus.

In the classic "recommend what you have" tradition, winter dog walks have been transformed by this purchase bought about a year ago. The warmest, snuggest jacket I've ever owned too. It's not super long but it's longer than the active wear stuff you talk of. Got fab hand warmer pockets too.

I have a MK1 TNF McMurdo - its mad hot and a huge coat. I've worn it <10 times in 10years. Be aware the build quality of newer TNF is rubbish - I also have a 20+ yr old Nuptse and a MK2 Nuptse that MrsRNP bought me and the McMurdo and Mk1 Nuptse are miles better quality wise.

I'd either buy my McMurdo or stick with the Montane Extreme - I also have a Montane Extreme and Montane Hydrogen (lighter version of the extreme) and they are my go-to dog walking coats.

Waxed cotton if you're going to be delving into the undergrowth to recover the errant pup. You'll only need the one for the rest of your life.

I'm with sandwich. Waxed cotton stockman coat, and use fleece or puffa beneath on cold days

I see Canada goose jackets everywhere, are people buying fakes or has the world just gone mad? I am someone who likes fancy outdoor gear but it's way out of my league.

I bought a Bob Mortimer style ex army coat. Very warm. For proper wet I have a Gill Inshore sailing coat.

Was going to suggest this. Cheap version of the classic drover coat, easily reproofed once a year with Renapur wax, won’t snag on the inevitable brambles, easily wiped off with an old damp towel, and ideally sized for using as a blanket to sit on on wet grass.
Easily patched, too.
This looks like just the thing, for less than £50 too:

This.

I've got a Mk1 McMurdo it's insane. Had it for yearssssss. I will always have it. You could wear a t shirt under it in -10

I've got a couple of windwall fleeces from 10 years ago too. Still like new.

Wouldn't touch any new TNF stuff.

Canada goose, the plebs are wearing fakes, the real stuff, how passé.

I've got a Hogg's of Fife padded waxed cotton coat. It works for me.

Oldest daughter has a McMurdo parka, she loves it. Had it 4 years now and still looks in good shape.
Partner has a similar looking Didriksons parka that she wears for skiing again faultless.
My go to dog walking jacket is a Decathlon sailing jacket.
It's a shell basically with loads of pockets, one of them has a safety lanyard for your compass.
