Just had my first off road run in two years, and me poor old pins ached.
I don't need protection from pronation or the other one?
Need lots of grip for all xc running no road at all.
The Flyrocs were fine, but I think I'm pushing it weight and slow pace wise.
I'll probably buy blind as I don't have a decent running shop anywhere near me.
NOT asics though as the last is too narrow.

Pete Bland sports are doing some Nikes: Nike Zoom trail which look good. Good grip with cushioning.

I wouldnt recommend Walsh/Inov8 unless you need absolute grip and are moving quite swiftly. They are great shoes but some are short in cushinoning to achieve the low profile.
Thats only my expeience however and they have a big range so they may have a more cushioned model for training.

I've moved from Inov8 Mudrocs to some Adidas Swoops for pretty much the same reason as you
Worth looking at

Flyrocs with more cushioning? Terrocs!

I'm also a big fan of Roclite 315s though, which have more padding than Terrocs. Roclite 320s have even more, but I've not tried those. If you do like Inov-8s, then here's all of their shoes with 4 arrow midsoles (the most cushioned - Flyrocs have 2 arrow midsoles) http://www.inov-8.com/Products-Search-By-Features.asp?PG=PG1&PFID=16&L=26

Asics narrow? Only Reebok and maybe Nike are wider in my experience. Oh, and New Balance do different width fittings. In fact, how about these?

I found Swoops pretty much an out and out fell shoe, not hugely cushioned. People seem to rate their Kanadia as an all rounder. Snug sizing though, but cheap and often cheaper still in Sport Direct if you've one nearby. I like Asics road shoes for their width, so not quite the same as your experience. They have a couple of trails shoes, the Enduro's a good all rounder if you change your mind. Get one of the Endurance last shoes if you try Inov-8. Hope this helps...
