I bought a new lawn mower last week, in store advertising said it has a 51cm cutting width. Got it home, used it and was pleased enough. I've now discovered that it has a 40cm blade. Spoke to the store who said that the advertising is right, 40cm is the blade width but cutting width is 51cm.

Now, one of us is being very daft. I can't work out how a 40 cm blade can cut 51cm of grass. But before I kick up more of a stink, I'm not missing something very obvious am I?

Check what the manufacturers website says for the mower you have? I can't think of any other way the blade could be measured that could be interpreted as 51cm.

Good idea. That has cleared things up nicely

So careful does it if you are thinking of buying one of these in Homebase this week! Although say that, I still think £119 is a bargain for the mower, even with a 40cm blade..
