MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Just been signed up with Vitality Health Insurance and it seems it makes sense to have a wearable. Discounts are available on Apple Watch, select Garmins and select Polars.
Reckon it is between a Watch 2 or a Garmin Vivo thingy - any real world experience of either to swing the decision?
Thanks.
Not used either! But - the Apple Watch will be useless to you without an iPhone. And if you already have one of those, why would you not go for the Watch? Especially at the price Vitality are offering!
Do you have to have the plan to get the offer and if so how much is the cheapest plan ?
I have the 1st gen Garmin Vivoactive (bought second hand from here) and I wouldn't be without it any more. Use it for swimming (think it is a little off in counting lengths, but gives me a good enough idea), running, biking (not mtb where I care about segment times...), walking, counting steps. I am not a top sports women in any area, just like being active and it gives me enough data. Without using the GPS it last for ~3 weeks and only takes 1 hour to charge (the screen isnt actively backlight so a lot better than Apple for battery life) and ~10 hours with the GPS on. However...it only samples every ~5 seconds, so on short fast mtb descents, it isn't as good as a proper GPS (which samples every 0.5-1 second) so I find the data a bit off (and elevations a bit lower), so mtb tends to be the only thing I dont use it for as your speed and elevation varies so much quickly.
I like the vivoactive, and I got it via Vitality - sadly my work changed providers this year.
The Vitality offer now on the Apple Watch is good, my wife is planning to go for it. Absolute worst case and you log no points it's a 0% over 24 months deal, you don't pay any more overall than the regular price.
160 points a month to get the payment to £0 is pretty good going, although achievable if you walk a fair bit and run/cycle a few times a week.
I have the vivoactive hr. Its the one I wear when going out and about. The battery life without gps can be up to 8 days which is much better than most smart watches. The blue tooth connectivity for messages from your phone works well when I can get it connected and the touchscreen is great for checking on the run. The screen brightness isnt great but useable, I'm not staring at it for aethetics ( it does have uploadable watch faces ) . The design of the watch is a bit underwhelming and definitely in the fitbit mode.
The garmin has replaced my cycle computer + hrm strap and I occasionally use it as my main watch.
