[#9268798]

This isn't something I think I've seen discussed on here before. Are there any?

There seems to have been a bit of an increase in popularity recently and I've no complaints about that.

Well you've obviously not paid attention to the usual bollocks that ensues whenever vegans or vegetarians come up (I was vegan, now vegetarian btw)
My advice would be don't bother, but if you must, someone will be along in a bit to recommend a bacon sandwich.

there are loads of us on here but we don't generally venture into vegan threads. It's not B12 deficiency that kills vegans, it's the tedium of engaging with the bacon sandwich brigade.

I ride with a Girl that's vegan, i find it all a tad intersting, i wouldnt or couldn't put the amount of effort into meal times as this Girl does. Hat off to her, she can make that bike go whilst simultaneously ranting on about hashtag no meat athlete etc, etc, etc.

Anyway, I've learnt about as much about as i need to at cafe stops, So when a relative from Australia sent their attention seeking vegan daughter to our house over the summer i repeatedly questioned her about Cow juice on cereal? butter on toast? My supply of mars bars that were miraculously disappearing? and her penchant for McDonalds chicken nuggets and chocolate Milk shakes. Then she would get back to our house and demand my Wife cooked a seperate meal for her that was Vegan!

In the end we moved her on to another relative who complained that she ate too much Junk food.

See i've not mentioned Bacon Sarnie's. I just thought i'd get that off my chest.

I understand vegetarian. At a push I could manage without bacon*. But ruling out butter, cheese, milk etc. and everything derived from them is definitely a step too far for me.

* This is probably not true.

I ride[s] with[/s] a Girl that's vegan

FTFME

Is a vegan dates a vegan has vegan children

and I never ever ever tire of those hilarious bacon butty jokes

thi is the only funny thing I discovered on one of the many threads on here

[img] [/img] though just saying bacon is funny if you eat meat....apparently

Page 2 or 3 we get
[img] [/img]

which is less funny than the first pic and still not as funny as saying bacon...mmmmm

you do not do it for your taste buds but for your ethics

though plenty of the food is awesome and I am an exceptional cake chef these days...pumpkin pie tonight seeing as you asked.

I'm generally vegan at home, but if I go to someone's house for dinner or to a wedding or whatever, I'll eat what I'm offered because I'm not an arsehole.
The occasional domino's margherita never killed anyone either...
I did once get accused of being in Monsanto's pocket by one of my very trendy liberal friends, which was strange.

Bread is vegan
Skittles are vegan
Hobnobs are vegan
Apple strudel is vegan
Oreos are vegan
Pretzels are vegan
Some donuts are vegan
A surprising variety of biscuits are vegan
I make bloody awesome vegan pancakes
Beer and wine is increasingly vegan as are most spirits.

Basically, you don't have to starve yourself or live off hippy lentil crap to be a successful vegan (which I do not consider myself). You also don't have to be that **** who forces it on everyone around them at every available opportunity.

I love that video, sums up a lot of people. The main problem with being vegan is that all the intolerance hunting glutenphobes suddenly want to be your friend, because they think I'm one of them, which I'm not, but some vegans are.

I'm drunk.

Meat eaters are hilarious arent they but not as funny as saying bacon

Thankfully no meat eater ever tells you they eat meat or what meat they like, nor that they could not live with out it- did i ask you to ?- when they discover you are vegan* and if they did they would not be doing it on a vegan thread as well they are more sensitive and dont shove their choices down others throat

* this is how it happens -

Do you want a biscuit
Oh what are they
Can i see the ingredients
Why are you gluten intolerant allergic to nuts or some such other

I now have to say i am a vegan and then i am preaching and telling everyone

Basically if anyone offers you a brew or food you need to say you are vegan

No milk please

oh are you allergic?
no I am a vegan and i am preaching

Not once on a bike ride has anyone ever mentioned whether what they are eating is meat or not and whether they enjoyed it.

Drac that's really good. Unfair but good!

Junkyard I wouldn't regard someone as preachy for what you describe. Food allergies in the family so it's normal.

It's not bad is it?

Of course it bares little resemblance to most vegans but then again most vegans really don't have to explain their reason why they don't a certain food substance.

The bacon joke is long standing on here the same as Baby Robin is.

not killing people isn't really the point though is it [/veganpolice]

AFAIK bacon mentioners, amusing as they are, have yet to equal the venerable Vegan Sidekick

Bit of an assumption on my part (sorry) but I just don't get it? I have no Idea of its suitability for vegans etc. Doesn't being vegan stretch to no leather etc??

I have some leather shoes that I bought before I became vegan, I still wear them as it would be wasteful to throw them out. I won't buy leather shoes again though.

My partner and I have been vegan since January this year. It's actually very easy to do provided you do your research first to make sure you do it right. I hated cooking before and now I love it, it might be coincidental but I used to get migraines frequently and I haven't had a single one this year and have stopped carrying my medication around with me.

The hard bit is dealing with other people, a lot are pretty fine about it, might ask a few genuine questions then leave you in peace. Some turn into rage and hate filled bellends as soon as they find out you don't eat meat or use any animal products, they get even worse if they find out that your not doing it for health reasons but for ethical ones. They are often constantly abusive and patronising and even try to trick you into eating meat or shove animal products in your face. This can be really bad as after awhile of not eating animal products they can make you sick if you consume them. For this reason I try to keep it hidden from people in real life as much as I can. My family know and my nan and mother are supportive though sometimes give me vegetarian food by mistake but at least they try. My siblings and father are generally obnoxious about it. A few people at work know but my crew mate dosent. He spends his weekends chasing foxes with packs of dogs and sometimes blowing birds out of the sky with guns, he seems to live on meat, bread and cheese only and has had several anti vegetarian and anti vegan rants this year unaware he was sitting next to one. He refers to veggies as bleeding heart liberal animal rights terrorists. I have to spend 12 hrs or more per shift stuck in a van with him, I don't think I could deal with the relentless pisstaking and potentially worse if he found out I am one of the ones he hates.

On and off in terms of diet - I found it a good way to force myself to eat healthier stuff, and it made shopping / cooking a bit more interesting. I'll often crack and buy bacon once in a while at home, or if friends are going out for a meal I'll not be fussy and will happily scoff a burger 🙂
