The heat shield on my wife's Vauxhall Astra has detached itself from the bottom of the car and the little stud that hold it in place has snapped off. If I take it off completely will the car blow up? Alternatively is there an adhesive compound I can use to hold it in place?
Heashield? Underneath? That's not a heat shield it's probably something to do with aerodynamics. Just take it off

If its the heatshield around the cat yes by all means throw it to ****
But doent be parking in any long dry grass\fields then you will end up trapped in a fireball with a slow lingering death

nah, just remove it mate. i had the same problem on my astra and on my wifes vectra and i have removed them both without issue, the exhausts dont get hot enough underneath the car for it to be an issue
