FWIW, I agree with you and would have been applicably "cooperative" in the circumstances. Presumably they were short on crimes to solve. 🙂

Why didn't you put your belt on before you set off? You know, like during your driving test?

Being honest, they were alright but my gripe is that they are spending time sitting around in a souped up BMW pulling folk for trivial things
I thought Police cars were pretty standard?

FWIW I often get people knocking on my car window when I'm on 'standby', usually with the words "quiet day then". I'm often tempted to say I'll test their obs and do a quick ecg so I can be seen to give value for money.

FFS bregante gave you a huge clue -

And yet it seems that when it comes to wriggling out of a parking fine on a supermarket carpark it's suddenly considered as a private carpark...

It just reinforces my respect and love for those boys and girls in blue

Tazzy.

you seem to be confuslicating the real filth with folks that like dressing up in uniform for sexual adventures. 😉

That would have been an invoice issued by a private company.

They can't issue "fines"

Nothing to do with what the area is legally classified as, just to do with who has issued the ticket/invoice.

I'd take a fair bet that no one has ever recieved a "fine" for not wearing a seatbelt in a supermarket car park either. 🙂

Yet so far you've not done a very good job of showing that Traffic Laws don't apply in Public Car Parks have you ?

In fairness though you did pay me good money to dress up as a female rozzer and slap you round the face with my truncheon while telling you how naughty you'd been.

Cheers for that vid.
It took me right back to underage drinking in the local winebar. 😀

Er, the answer to that would appear to be yes. Hardly his fault if you're ignoring the evidence he's provided.

I once got stopped by the police for not having a seatbelt on. I'd also just pulled away from a parking place, though was on a road rather than in a car park. Like the OP I got a warning rather than being ticketed. Unlike the OP I think it was a perfectly reasonable thing for the police to spend their time doing, and I'm quite happy they stopped me.

I see no evidence of anyone being prosecuted for not wearing a seatbelt in a supermarket carpark.

Maybe you could show it to me?

I once gave someone a ticket in a privately owned public car park for not wearing a seatbelt. If that helps 🙂

And for balance, I've never given anyone a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt. Ever.

Was it a raffle ticket 😉

If you are a rozzer and it stood up as legal i'll say that i'm wrong.

Suprised but wrong. 🙂

You asked about whether traffic laws applied in supermarket car parks - here's the result of 1 minute of googling

No idea, it was a seat belt day of action and I wasn't allowed back to the station until I'd given one out! I assume the bloke just paid it, was only £30.

No i asked you to provide evidence of anyone being done for not wearing a seatbelt in a supermarket car park.

I'd take a fair bet that no one has ever recieved a "fine" for not wearing a seatbelt in a supermarket car park either.

Except I replied to this:

"Yet so far you've not done a very good job of showing that Traffic Laws don't apply in Public Car Parks have you ?"
And you've done a good job of showing they do?

your point appears to be that you can't be prosecuted for not wearing a seatbelt, when given that other traffic laws apply, clearly you can.

and if that's not good enough, another couple of minutes threw up this:

No you've still not shown me any evidence of anyone being fined for not wearing a seatbelt in a super market carpark. 🙂

Straws/clutching. 😉

If you were to get your longbow out in a supermarket carpark i think it's fair to say you should recieve a ticket.
No matter what day of the week it was. 🙂

Exactly what point are you trying to prove here? Do you really think that because nobody has been prosecuted for not wearing a seatbelt in a supermarket carpark (if that is the case) that proves it's not illegal (despite ample proof that other motoring laws apply)?

At last you've got it. 8)

Lifer.

The retail park you mention has road that are maintained by the council, and lead to factories etc.

From what you say she was not on the private part, ie the car parks.

Big ride tomorrow so off to bed.xxx

This is just a stab in the dark but if the OP's friends were sitting in a "souped up" BMW, that sounds like it might be traffic cops rather than just "normal" polis, doesn't it? So what you'd have is an example of traffic cops enforcing traffic law. And they didn't ticket him or give him producers, they just told him to wear the fing seatbelt. Sounds like OP copped a massive attitude and got all Barrack Traffic Lawyer about it too.

I usually criticize the police and the job they do but in this case I don't see the problem at all.

By the way, the lack of a seat belt serves as a pretext to interact with you, see if you seem pissed, have a quick look at the car and tax disc, maybe ask for licence etc.

And I bet everyone that gets stopped for not having a seat belt says "oh ffs what are you whining about, I was just about to do it up, 10 seconds won't kill me..."

What, wade through all the Google lawers' post to find the actual highway code? No. I'd rather believe what someone told me in the pub . . .

Wrong. It was something like "oh, sorry officer, yes you're right, how silly of me, I'll really try not to do it again" 😉
