Hi team! I use Zwift, currently via my summer bike and a Wahoo Kickr Core. My other half is keen to get back in to spinning again, but doesn't want to have a bike..... My potential solution is a Zwift Ride, which would hook up to the turbo, and is then adjustable for our different heights.
The bit I can't work out (want to be more certain before spending the £'s) is how she'd do spinning classes on it? There aren't any on Zwift. Has anyone any experience using this https://www.qzfitness.com to bridge between the Zwift Ride unit and a second device running say a Peloton spin class?
Can you control the resistance on the Kickr using the Wahoo app? From what I remember of spinning, it's only resistance you need to alter. Everything else is reacting to the shouty person.
my misses used to spin, then we got a Zwift setup, she used it a bit, but couldnt 'spin' on there and after a while stop using it. So we sold her setup and got her a spin bike. she now uses that with some Les Mills classes.
So as far as i am aware, no you cant Spin on zwift in the traditional sense. Whether as stated you can make some sort of version, i am not sure. But also, isnt some of the Spin appeal the high intensity, music pumping, instructor yelling type of vibe, which you cant recreate with Zwift.
Spin bikes are fixed wheel with a large flywheel & normally a hand-knob to adjust resistance.
I don't think a Zwift set-up would replicate it very well.
As above - Spinning and using a Zwift style bike trainer are not the same thing.
Spinning relies on the big, heavy, fixed flywheel to help maintain a fixed RPM (BPM) which is then used to add in all sorts of other moves and yes, the shouty instructor, happy hardcore 180bpm tunes and silly stretches. I happen to really enjoy spinning, if you properly go for it you can have a very intense session.
If this is what your partner enjoys she wont get that from the bike on Zwift - HOWEVER - its still worth trying, for a slightly different, more 'cycling' style workout. Have you let her have a go on your bike (seat down, flat pedals fitted?) with a Zwift style workout? Using EGR mode on the workouts gives you a 'trainer' in control of the resistance etc, and then just stick some headphones and some tunes on. You can also build your own workouts in the app, whether you want do do an hour at 120 watts or little 30 second sprints etc.
If she does get on with this - then yes, a Zwift Ride would work - but you dont need it.
My gravel bike sits on my Kickr and I just fitted some dual spd/flat pedals, and a QR seat collar with two marks on the post for her/me.
