I have just got an upgrade to an Iphone 4s which is locked to O2. I want to give it to my wife who is on Virgin but the guy in the shopping centre that I normally use for this cant unlock it from O2. Any suggestions ?
Ring O2 and ask them to unlock it.
Apparently they wont until its been out for 6 months

When you say "apparently," do you mean "definitely" or "I guess"? Have you rang and asked?
The only other option is a random dodgy geezer on the market, unless there's a hackish way of doing it along with jailbreaking. In honesty, I've never tried.
Will ring and ask tomorrow, but have been told by someone who looked into it not before they've been out 6 months, they did the same with the Iphone 4 when it came out first from what I understand. Standard practice, and I think it applies to any contract phone, not just iPhones. Just get a cheap O2 sim like a Simplicity or something until it can be unlocked. Of course, you'll have to carefully cut the sim to fit...
could you keep the 4s and give your wife the 4??
