3yrs for sticking a page on Facebook about starting a riot in Dundee. Would anyone even know if there'd been a riot in Dundee?
Tough.
titty
You would if you lived in Dundee and had your business ransacked / torched or were caught up in a mob of violent criminals.
Justice has been done. They'll be out by May 2013 - sooner if they've been on remand.
It's nice to see the existing laws exercised to full potential for a bloody change.
It's Tsar Bomba btw... 😉

Was there really any chance of this happening though? Because of a facebook page?
They were clearly trying. Doesn't matter if it didn't happen.

Well, it does though, if the argument is that the sentence is just and you'd agree if "you lived in Dundee and had your business ransacked / torched or were caught up in a mob of violent criminals."
Threats have to have some credibility before it makes any sense to take them seriously. Internet fantasists don't need to be handled the same way as genuine threats.
Maximum sentence is actually 10 years, so 3 is pretty light in that scale of things
We should probably stick Joe Strummer inside for 10 then, his appeal for a riot of his own was much more likely to come true.
So what's the difference with urging people to riot using Facebook, and saying strikers should be shot in front of their families on National Television?

I'm 50/50 on this, the robins hood airport thing was stupid, the FB riots seemingly have more intent but 3yrs still seems a long time for something that presumably never happened. Didn't one of the english guys who did similar only intend it as a joke and didn't turn up? The other guy did show and police were waiting with handcuffs IIRC Did these two actually turn up/actually genuinly try to arrange something? Specific time place etc?
<edit> oh and what elfin said
Compare this to the bullingdon club bullies -who did actually do serious criminal damage but used their chequebooks to get off with it
Sorry to revive this, but being of that barrio; both had previous taken into account in sentencing.
