We had a large group of those thieving pikeys rock up on spare land near work 10 days ago (Rochdale). Beginning of this week they'd moved on.

Tell them there is a horse fare in Rathkeale and Jimmy, Jack and Joan are getting into a bit of bother...

Annoying thing is that we have been highlighting this very concern to the local parish council.. Who in typical upper class fashion have dismissed our concerns with slight of hand.

Now for the price of a clean up , insurance claims, court and policing costs we are all footing the bill for their incompetence.

get the landowner to start blocking them in with concrete blocks ,trees or start digging a ditch around them...
They soon move if they are not able to get out to rip old grannies off by "fixing" houses up for them ( The farmers we know have used this method very successfully in the past)

lol the local farmer basically gave the last lot of travellers notice who moved into a fallow field, he started muck spreading the next day the whole field apart from the patch in the middle they where camped on. the moved on the same day...TBF pig sh1t really stinks 😆

Some friends living down the road had travellers,i'm being polite calling them that,arrive last weekend and pitch up with caravans,horse box and 4 horses smack opposite their house on a farmers field.Police were called but were not interested and we believe the farmer was intimidated as more turned up in cars.
My friends had sleepless nights,and the husband who works away,was reluctant to leave his wife in the house.
They left this morning but horses remain (free grazing),but a neighbour has seen other other travellers coming down and looking at the land.
Everybody believes that unless the field is fenced off quickly it will be an ideal spot for them next to the river.And we're on the route to Appleby.

They were spotted and i went off to see the neighbour and farmer and we saw about getting the quarry gate ( also his garden gate) locked up at nights and when he was out.

Black crv with burst exhaust and 4 blokes gawping into my garage( cant see much due to where i park the cars ) stoped out side my house and believe me there is no reason for the car from the travelers camp in the next village to be looking round my road unless its for somewhere to camp or stuff to steal.

It's a leap to go from "I saw them breaking into a club in broad daylight" to "all travellers are thieving bastards." Have a word with your conclusion jumping, that's not what the OP said.

There are a number of specialist outfits who could help the landowner such as Constant & Co who in my experiece will move them on within 24 hrs.

Up the road from me the 'lovely travelling folk ' whilst not out selling lucky heather and whittling clothes pegs caused alot of local grief.
Loads of oldies intimidated by door knockers offering driveway paving or tree surgery, one old lady outside my place at 6am scared of going home .
Public toilet block bust into ( was 9 -5 ) and turned into some sort of huge dirty protest , before being smashed up.
Large beachside car park made out of bounds to all locals and holidaying visitors.
Said large car park left looking like a dump with all the usual gas bottles , rubbish , washing machines, nappies old BBQ's and car parts left for the council to clean up.

99.9% of travellers give the rest a bad name.

Seriously i would not feel comfortable going away for the weekend when you have pikeys on your doorstep.

I live in the Warrington / St Helens area. Every time we get an illegal "travellers" site springing up they leave an area of devastation. Rubbish every where and a good deal of local funds spent clearing it up. No positives at all. Funny how dropping gel wrappers is, rightly, condemned by all but criticise travellers for trashing an area and you are a bigot who is intolerant of an alternative lifestyle.

Maybe some of the defenders above will enlighten us with tales of what these gentle folk bring to enhance the area where they stop.

I'm not denying there's some fairly serious issues with some travellers. There's also a lot of bigoted bellends around though, so it sort of balances out.

They have (for footflaps) moved into two car parks on the high peak trail of late. Was tootling by the other day day and had to chuckle as one of the caravans had a lovely bit of that fake grass (good 8'x4') outside with his deck chair and little side table placed on it. Looked just like your average English country garden 🙂

We had a load of [s]pikeys[/s] charming travelling folk rock up last year. They came in the local for a beer. Everyone was nice enough with them. When they left the landlord noticed all the window locks on the back windows had been levered off from the inside. No doubt for a return visit later on. The copper who came out told us that for the last couple of nights, thefts from sheds and garages had gone through the roof.

Make of that what you will. I'm sure it was a series of coincidences, personally.

I think they are a lovely, misunderstood group of charming folk. You should treat them as any other new neighbour and invite them into your house for a drink.

Last time the pulled up near me I went down intoriduced myself told them where our water point was and said they could help themselves but not bring dogs as one of ours would fight any dog it saw

they were grateful and no one was robbed

FWIW local crims also increase their crime rate when travellers turn up as they know they will get the blame and the attention.
Been a traveller had the plod visit [ UK and abroad] even though we never did any of this and lived with travellers - some are scum for sure but that is true of some house dwellers as well.

Huge gypsy camp near where I live, hence lots of warning leaflets aimed at the elderly warning them about cold calling con artists. Again seems unfair that the police are trying to do these people out of there culture inheritance by discouraging there way of life.

We get quite a few young travellers enrol long on short courses at the college I work in. Overall they are more polite and better behaved than the rest of the students. Just my experience, not what people down the pub have told me, not sure it's admissible.
