I'm looking for a contemporary, far-flung, travel/adventure book. Any recommendations?

Can be bike-related, or not. Could be extreme endurance running, walking, driving, climbing etc. (but also doesn't have to be any of these), as long as it takes in many different countries.

Ideally, it should also have some great photography.

relevant to my interests. Would be interested to see what people suggest!

Haven't got any particularly contemporary recommendations but a few of my favourites, that are definitely worth checking out if you haven't read them - mainly 80's for some reason:

Colin Thubron - Among the Russians
Ma Jian - Red Dust
Bruce Chatwin - In Patagonia
William Dalrymple - From the Holy Mountain
Paul Theroux - Riding the Iron Rooster

and although this isnt strictly travel, this is still a great NF book about a foreign location, and v pertinent these days

Best travel book ever is Flight of Ikaros by Kevin Andrews. About post-war Greece. Beautifully written and really captures something about Greece that (IMO!!) others such as Patrick Leigh Fermour miss.

Under a sickle moon by Peregrine Hodson. Travelling through Afghanistan in the 80s with the Mujahedeen.

If it's true The Backpacker by John Harris. It does seem total fiction but still a great read.
Wrong Way Home by Peter Moore, I read every holiday.

Not that far flung, only covering one country, not much photography -- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Revolutionary-Ride-Road-Search-Real/dp/1857886577
