ok, there was a 4 car pile up in brecon at the weekend, thankfully no one was badly injured, a few precautionary scans but all 16 people are ok.
So the issue is that the 4th car came into contact with mine and bent the bumper. The damage is slight but its 10 years old and if I was to try and sell it as I was thinking of doing it will notice. The repair will be about £300 or more for a car worth about £3k
I feel petty as its small damage and we all walked away.
Should I claim or not?
opinions
Claim for the bumper and all of you get sudden neck pains too.
Fleece them for every penny you can get and buy yourself a new bike.
😉
Seriously - only you know the answer, but if it were me I would want my car put right, 10 yrs old or 10 days.
Your not a charity and its not a 'should I be charitable-type' question. Car insurance is there for a reason. It effects the value of your car doesnt it?
I can't see why you wouldn't claim but if you want to be nice about it ask the driver of car 4 if he'd rather pay you direct for the repair that you sort so he doesn't have to claim of his insurance and knacker NCB etc. Get a quote agree price and get money from him that way, send him receipt when done to prove you've not just fleeced him for the cash.
Claim - insurance is all about returning you to the postion you were in before the accident....
Protected no claims is the bees knees.
£40 to protect 7 years NCB (65% discount), allowed 2 claims a year.
I always thought it was a rip off (it probably is) but when you pay by DD its only £4 a month
Insurers tend to rate the risk of insuring you on whether you've had an incident rather on whether it was fault or not.
If you have told your insurers about the incident then your premium will possibly be affected at your next renewal whether you actually claim or not.
So I'd assume that one of the other parties will have informed their insurers about your car - you will more than likely get penalized at renewal whether your fault or not.
Having said that, then yes, I'd claim off the person who drove into me.
(£3k for a 10 yr old car with a bumper only worth £300 doesn't sound right to me? What car is it?)
