I need to do mine. The obvious choice seems UPVC, but my house is painted white and even good quality UPVC double glazing and guttering looks off white against the briliant white finish after a while.
I'm tempted to replace with timber and gloss it, any reason why I shouldn't.

Timber - needs maintenance but lasts longer. Looks far better as well IMO

You will be forever treating timber frame windows to protect your investment.
PVC will go offwhite, but so will your paintwork. Alternatively, you can get timber effect UPVC. Its quite good. my folks have got it. UV resistant apparently.
