We may have to get a 7-seater; what we probably need is something with fold-away jump seats rather than a full-on family bus as we won’t need to move 6 people all the time.

Given we’ve had a run of VWs, the Tiguan Allspace seems an obvious starting point. Has anyone got one? What are the back seats like, and how easy is it to get to the back row with Isofix seats in the middle row?

Not sure. A friend has got one, but the local Peugeot dealer was a bit crap when we went to look at a 308.

Have a good look at the Skoda Kodiaq. If the Karoq ( 5 seater version ) is anything to go by, it should be a bloody nice car. Probably a few quid cheaper too.

From reading the car websites the Kodiaq is a bit bigger but the boss won’t see past the Skoda badge. It’s a pity there’s no 7-seater Ateca but the nearest Seat dealer is 20 miles away anyway.

How about a Qashqai +2? Then there’s the Citroen C4 Picasso, I spent the best part of 18 months in the back of one of those, bugger-all room for an adult sat normally, but I used a folded travel blanket as a cushion and sat sideways on across the car, and there were three blokes sat in front of me, six in the car in total. Comfy enough for me to sleep on most of the trips down to Cornwall. I did thousands of miles like that! They’re not bad to drive either, the auto box shifts pretty well, the instruments and infotainment system are pretty good,

The Galaxy is even better. The Zafira 1.4 Turbo is pretty quick, and not a bad drive either, front seats are very comfy, driven lots back from Cornwall, roughly 220 mile runs, and the seating was perfectly comfy enough without getting numb in the bum. 😊

I’ve just got rid of a Tiguan at 18000 miles.

it rattled over bumps, auto handbrake didn’t like to release, the collision assist has a tendency to brake for no reason. Both the rear disc and pads needed replacing.

Some people love them and have no issues, others seem to have lots of problems.

i wouldn’t buy another one.

I looked at the Tiguan (normal one) before ordering a Karoq. The Karoq is honestly better finished in places than the VW.

Go and at least look at the Kodiaq. I don’t need the 7 seats and almost went for one anyway  as it was a nice place to be just a little too big for my needs.

As per previous post. Also nearly got the Kodiaq, but didn't need the 7 seats anymore so went for the Karoq, but the Kodiaq felt a very nice place to be, I'd go as far as comparing it to an Audi.

We’ve just got shot of our T5 (repairs and consumables getting too expensive, wanted to drive a car again), still wanted 7 seats, 4wd and a reasonable boot. VW all space was nice, but pricey.

Kodiaq was also on the list, was very well priced, lovely place to be, had a automatic foldy-out tow bar, good entertainment system thingy. Really nice.

But my big telescope wouldn’t fit into the boot. Nooooo!

2 months ago we ended up buying an end of model year Hyundai Grand Santa Fe, with a huge discount and every possible bit of kit as standard. Smashing car.

I was hugely disappointed when I recently had a look at a current Tiguan as it felt quite low rent inside and no posher than the Seat Ateca (and Karoq no doubt) considering the premium you pay.

I'm also thinking 7 seats atm and have noticed the BMW 2 Series bus thing has some decent discounts atm. No looker but at least it should be a nice place to sit.

Got a Kodiaq, it’s great. It’s exactly the same as the allspace, just precisely two orange alpine 6s (the ones with all the hope bling) cheaper.

i posted a review on briskoda as they’re not without their pitfalls.  https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/438758-5000-mile-review/?tab=comments#comment-5086782

No looker

Now that there is a maasive understatement. It’s a hellishly awkward looking thing.

Are any of the BMW SUVs seven seaters?

Yes, the biggest of the 2 series one. Pop up out of the floor.

You might be surprised as they’re selling off the old stock with big discounts and 0% before the new model comes out later in the year. My sister got one on pcp for not much more than we were quoted for a x1 which in turn won’t be miles off a Tiguan 7 seater i’d imagine.

We’ve just bought a new Tiguan. I wanted the Kodiaq, but it’s more her car than mine & she liked the Tiguan. It’s a nice car but the same money as the Kodiaq, which has more kit, more space, less snobbish etc. My brother in law gets a new VAG car every few months & reckons the Kodiaq better than any of the Tiguan’s or Q3’s that he’s had.

Cheapest CarWow offer was £21.5k for an SE spec TDi Kodiaq. That’s a lot of car for the money.

Popped into the Škoda dealer and the salesperson told me the rear row of seats were for children only.

Correct/not correct? I am now slightly confused.

touran is 8 grand cheaper, like-for-like. How much do you need those SUV looks?

Had a Kodiaq on trial for work it was very impressive car, the Skoda quality of finishing showed a little but overall a pretty good car.

There's a big difference between "Definitely need a 7- seater" and "may have to think about a 7 seater"

If it's the first, buy an S-Max or a Galaxy. I've had both and they're the best tool for the job if you have lots of kiddies.

If it's the second.....

Mitsibishi Outlander, but not the electrickery one.

In red.....because that's what I just bought now that my kids are bigger.

If we need to do this, it’ll be occasional use rather than all the time...

Easiest way to avoid confusion is to sit in one yourself and ask  "Could I stay here for an hour or two?"

Unless you're a giant.

Sat in the back of a Kodiaq and frankly it was better than sitting between the isofix seats in my current car.

Boom ☄️👍

The hardest part of the decision is convincing your partner that the badge has street cred and will look good on the school run then.. 🤪

Shitty Skoda builds were extinguished when VAG took them over in the last decade.

Rear seats in the kodiaq /allspace will take adults, but not for very long. They have no isofix points and skoda say you shouldn’t put any form of child seat or booster in the third row. Tiz an arse. Have bought a second hand caravelle which is taking the skod’s place.

That's interesting, and completely at odds with what the dealer said...

Yep, not surprised the dealer said that. The manual says only 1 specific model (Britax Kidsafe) may be fitted to the third row, other seat positions are Universal or iSize compatible. Britax contradict this & say they've not tested it. "It may fit, go to mothercare & try one." It doesn't, as the headrests don't come out.  Have spent hours on the phone to both britax and skoda technical. Eventually Skoda admitted they were wrong & future editions of the manual will be adjusted. Interestingly skoda have binned britax from their accessory catalogue recently & shifted to Recaro.

Is there any height/weight upper limit in the manual, do you know?
