The feeling you have when it's the night before a big holiday.

What, massive stress and frantic last minute packing? 😉

The surf just now.
The area of skin across a women's hips to thighs - nothing is smoother
A well timed beer.
Getting knackered through exercise.
My car (!)
The sound of water from a babbling brook to crashing waves.
The right wine with good food.
An unexpectedly wild sh4g.
Cut grass
Seeing my little boy laugh

An secret smile from a lady

Feeling alone and at peace with my surroundings

Buying a round for friends

When something external, like a song, a picture or phrase, resonates with your thoughts and feelings

Cycling properly (which happens every now and then)

Floaty turns in knee deep powder on my snowboard

Seeing the shape of an idea as all the loose pieces in you mind unexpectedly snap together

The first gin and tonic on the flight on the way to your holiday. That means the stress is over. you've cleared all the hurdles, the bag is packed, ticket and passport found, breakneck-speed drive to the airport and sprint through the departure lounge completed in the nick of time, and you can relax. At least until your "Bastard! Forgot the earphones for my iPod" moment...

StefMcDef, surely the first G&T is had in the lounge at the airport? (Although, by preference, I take a Virgin Mary before a long haul flight, before being assaulted with champagne!)

Feeling absolutely knackered on the bike (today), then heading for home and realising the wind is now behind you all the way.
The facial expression of a dog having a dump
Finding a bling bike part you forgot about in a drawer
The second run on a skiing/boarding holiday
A bargain of any description
Finding something decent to watch on tv
Lager and a hot chilli/curry
Getting a ghetto tubeless tyre to inflate 1st time with a track pump
My life
Getting a txt from my daughter who is in Thailand at the moment
Seeing my dogs curled up asleep after a good walk
Singletrack

I travel steerage, Cap'n - if I'm being assaulted with champagne on a flight or travelling long haul, then amid all the pre-flight panic I've picked up someone else's passport and boarding card.

The smell of my daughter/wife's hair after a good long walk in the cold autumn air.
The look of sheer joy on my daughters face when she runs into our bedroom in the morning.
The feeling of pride I get when people really enjoy my food.
The smell of freshly cut spruce.
Scoring a belter of a goal.
The feeling of comfort and familiarity when you walk back into your home after returning from holiday.
The sound of bagpipes.
Sausages.
Markets, the sights, sounds and smells.
Walking through town on a really nice day, seeing how happy everyone is.

Silence in the countryside (the sort that is actually full of sound, but all of it sourced live from natures imagination).

The smell of cold frosty air in the wind at the top of a hill.

The smile my 9 week old daughter has been perfecting for the last few weeks (and no, it isn't bl00dy wind! That look is different, and just as cute).

My wife.

Barbecued food.

A bottle of a decent red on a cooling evening with some open fire nearby, even if it is just the remains of the barbeque.

The kids in my class saying thank you after a good day in school.

The kind of tired only a long days effort can produce.

The fact that this list could go on for ages and ages...

The climb up and the ride down (on or off road, even if sometimes I can't ride it)
The view from the top.
Learning something new.
Good beer.
Watching awesome bands in tiny pub back rooms.
Everything that squeezes under the banner of 'Punk rock', the louder the better.
When things just happen unexpectedly and life rewards you with something good!

having one of those perfect days with the wife and kids, ending with them tired but happy and going to bed nicely!

That feeling of being the first one down a fresh powder run - steep, wide and it's all yours as you build up speed and do a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge carved first turn. Oh, just fabulous.

Cresting a really tough, steep and narrow bit of singletrack just at the point where you think you can't posibly do it, and finding a wonderful flowy, jumpy, out-of-the-saddle-pedally bit of trail.

Being somewhere together with old friends (whom all have kids now too) and sharing a few drinks, a stolen marlboro light and just having a totally unpretentious good time. Just brilliant.

Great thread!

finishing a night shift in the depths of winter when it's persisting down with rain and dark and cold and climbing into a nice cosy bed while everybody else in the street is climbing into their cars and trudging off through the rush hour to start their day at work.

and mango chutney

this is a lovely thread..

Belly laughs from my baby boy..
The smells and sounds of a seaside town waking up for summer drifting through an open window on a warm breeze..
A big crowd of friends and associates all arriving independantly and unplanned for an evening at the pub..
That strange untangible slightly medeival atmosphere that you get at a village event where a strange and ancient rural custom is being observed usually followed by unashamed communal drinking..
When you stumble across a modern day troupe of travelling entertainers in the form of an illegal rave complete with big top and hippie wagons in the middle of nowhere..
That warm reckless fuzzy still slightly drunk but not actually hung over feeling that can only be acheived after a heavy night..
Summer..
Oneness with the bike..
When a piece of music or film or a book or artwork catches you unawares and brings a lump to your throat..
meeting up with a mate who's on top form..
Laughing til it hurts..

swarfega and GT85
big views across the coast or mountains
the earth smell after the rain
setting out on a roadtrip
getting back from a roadtrip
the fleeting feeling of being inspired to do something different and creative
the way some dogs seem to wag their whole bodies when they greet you
maltesers cut in half then with some marmite put on.

Being in the middle of a festival crowd in a mass singalong
Sitting outside our tent in the sunshine reading a book having just done a really hard ride
Seeing the real painting finally of something I've only ever seen prints of
Sitting in the Bridgwater Hall listening to classical music with my eyes closed
Picnics by rippling rivers
Big epic views earnt
Finishing a huge piece of work/project & everything hitting deadline
Those rare moments when I know exactly who I am, what I'm doing and where I'm going in life, where anything is possible and I might possibly be able to change the world a bit.
I'm old. :O) I don't care.
