Making dens. In trees, bomb holes, and out of hay bales. We used to make "castles" out of hay bales then pull up clumps of stalks with soil still attached and launch them at the enemy's castle

Funny memories from youth which make me smirk. When young, a couple of days after a heavy scrumping session (plums I think) round my mates who's dad had lit a bonfire. We of course threw a can of Lynx on to it. Took ages before it went bang which made me jump.... and sht myself, literally, diarrhea trickled down my leg and behind my knee.

Hiding behind a door when wife or 19yo daughter are coming into a room and jumping out scaring the crap out of them. Never gets old.

You have to avoid the gaps between slabs otherwise the bears get you!

I still love riding shopping trolleys and have been known to get my partner to push me around the supermarket.

Although it doesn’t happen quite as much as I’d like going out to play on bikes is right up there..

i have very recently managed to ride no handed for more than 3mm, something that has eluded me for the last 52 years… when it clicked that was a proper childish thrill..!

Plinking a bottle of petrol, situated next to a lit candle, with an air rifle to light a fire!

And chucking rocks into deep mud down at the estuary.

Oooh, yeah. Particularly from high places...

Popping a nice zit that actually makes a tiny little popping noise and shoots a bit of puss onto the mirror. Lovely.

A very rare delight these days but I still savour them when they do occur. 😁

As your skill/luck improves you can get a stone to enter the water with barely a splash or noise

Yes please. I do this with sort of lozenge-shaped stones, throw them up like a rugby ball, spinning round the lengthways axis like rifled bullet, entering the water vertically - if you get it right.  "schomp!"

Running through crunchy leaves.

Riding through puddles and rear wheel skids on bike.

Snowball fights and Nerf gun battles with Neice and Nephew.

Breaking the foil seal on Instant coffee jars.

picking a scab

farting in a bath and feeling the bubbles tickle your taint

On paving stones - choosing a mark in the pavement a way off (like where the bitmac changes) but then walking towards it pretending you're a fast bowler...no break steps, gradually get into your stride and build momentum, with an aim to be a full (walking) speed and hitting the line exactly without no-balling.

using anything new - opening a jar and getting the lid pop, a new bag of coffee beans, even just a new toothbrush.

Freewheeling down a long hill

Who doesn’t love a long, fast freewheel run down a hill! There’s one, Bowden Hill, which runs down into Lacock, past the Rising Sun pub, and only starts to flatten out when it gets to the River Avon.

There’s a couple of bends just below the pub, so you’ll be advised not to swing out too far, or else you’ll be embedded in the front of a car coming up! I’ve freewheeled down there on my singlespeed, having to stay on the brakes to avoid running into the back of cars going down, which is frustrating…

The river is just before The Wharf, so you can see what a fun run it is, it starts pretty much from where it says Bowden Hill on the right hand size. You just hope there isn’t too much traffic to hold you up.

Currently recovering from hip surgery.

So many little things have brought me childish joy.

Sneaking out of the front door and then into the back garden after a few days house bound so my girlfriend couldn't find me.

Collecting windfall apples with my litter picker whilst on crutches.

Walking more than a mile. Every step is joyful.

Riding at the front on a double-decker bus.

I've asked people to move off the front seat when foreign kids have been desperate to sit there. 100percent success rate. Everybody loves it so they have immediately moved 🤣

Going upstairs on a double decker train. Actually.... Sleeping in bunkbeds, getting in without using the ladder.

The first frost or snow of the year - always exciting!

Using the wind on a stormy day to lean into the wind (jacket over your head optional).

The quiet when your wheels leave the ground, shortly followed by the hitting it again. Similar, but with skis leaving the snow.

Reaching for a hold that you are 80% sure you'll miss and getting just enough on it to make the move stick (I only started bouldering a few years back, I'm now 47).

Jaffa cakes (before I realised I was gluten intolerant).

Cake for breakfast with no one to tell you not to.

Right now, the local council has got a whole pile of those vacuum-operated counter things strapped over lots of the cycle paths around here, obviously because data is important for infrastructure planning. I wheelie over them every single time, so's they think that there's at least one unicyclist using the bike paths.

Sound of a Merlin engine

On holiday in Scotland recently we visited the Dumfries aviation museum.

All those beautiful planes up close 😍

Then we went to see the Spitfire. Yes, Spitfire! I actually stood next to a real Spitfire. I touched a real Spitfire. It's making me come over all weak just thinking about it now.

Reminds me of the time I heard these amazing engines and looked up to see a Lancaster flying overhead.

Or when we were going to the beach near Blackpool and saw a Spitfire flying past, screeched to a halt and jumped out the car to watch, my wife was very understanding but clearly thought I was mad 🤣

Did I mention I have touched a real Spitfire?

Don't get me wrong, I like a good trip to a beer seller, but one of us must be doing something wrong

You should come down to my place (on a line between Biggin Hill and Beachy Head) Spitfires fly past several times a day in the summer.  It's actually possible to become desensitised to them!

The archery club shares its grounds with a clay pigeon club. Hugely satisfying walking over n crunching large bits of clay pigeons.
