A nice story. Â His excitement is palpable and understood by many on here I am sure.
It's fantastic to be able to help somebody. I once telephoned the Chairman of the Nigerian Cycling Federation to ask if I could do anything to help young cyclists but I was met with nothing but negativity and suspicion. If cycling in Nigeria is anything like tennis, where my British colleague does a lot to help young players, the clubs are used by old men on committees as a place to drink cold beer without needing to go home and start the gen and burn diesel for the AC.
clearly there are a few ****s among us, but IN GENERAL I just think cyclists seem to be nice people.
That’s so cool.
Sometimes this new fangled social media thing can be quite rewarding.
The skillz the skillz - RedBull need to sign him up sharpish!
Hope they sent it with plenty of spare tyres, bearings, chain rings, sprockets and bottom brackets!
Trouble with mechanical donations to undeveloped countries is when they are not able to source/afford parts when things wear out. Often ends with the donation broken and dumped on a scrap heap a few years down the line.
Erm... why has the title to my post been changed?
There was something similar a little while ago for a trials / street rider. I think it's cool. It's become a thing for sponsored BMX riders to donate their bikes to locals when they go on trips to less well off countries.
This is a nice story. Does anyone else find it a bit uncomfortable though how this type of story has to be shared so widely? The boss giving his employee a car, the students giving their cleaner a cash donation .. .. It all feels a bit patronising.
I would imagine the Mods changed the title because there are a couple of very important threads regarding the aforementioned guy, and maybe they wanted to keep it separate?
It wasn't in bad taste, it was just one of those things.
This is just a guess.
Worked with quite a few Nigerians.
Google Earth can be quite humbling when you ask them to show you where they're from and they point out a wooden shack with a tin roof.....
