Can anyone see a big ring around the moon? seen it before, what causes that then?
Ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.
It's a Lunar halo, you get the same thing around the Sun. It's caused by very high ice crystals that form cirrostratus cloud. It's a 22 degree one I expect, and it's a good indicator of changing weather. The same clouds cause sundogs as well.
[edit]
here's a photo of a Sundog, or a pair, I should say; parhelia, to use the technical name.
