While we wait for the miserable Scot to sorely disappoint us, we can at least take heart in Laura Robson, currently 5-2 up in the first set against a player ranked 32 in the world!
Robson's last week of training may have been a little disrupted by finishing her GCSEs. Marvellous!
ONLY 15?!?!? unbelievable.
Brilliant bring it on!!
Brilliant bring it on!!
Impressed. Won her first set 6-3.
STOP THIS NOW.
Is there nowhere that one can go to to escape from the Wimbledon hyperbole??
Keep STW Wimbledon free! Keep STW Wimbledon free! Keep STW Wimbledon free!
Seems a bit harsh to judge Andy on his personality (I'm not exactly Mr Charm). Judge him on his ability and commitment please.
Go Andy, you can beat The Fed!
i'm pleased that robson is doing the business, but aesthetically (and athletically!) disappointed that hantuchova will be out. 🙂
edit - "will hopefully be out"
isn't she Australian?
Whathaveisaidnow - Memberisn't she Australian?
laura robson? no chance!
(she was born there but her family moved back shortly after and she's british)
watching it when i get the chance now - for a 15 year old female her serve is ridiculous.
(when she doesn't double fault...)
oh dear - 1 set all now.
come on robson!
Judge [Murray] on his ability and commitment please.
No, these things will decide whether he wins. What is at stake here is whether we hate him as much as he hates us. 🙂
Sad to say that the first set win was as good as it got. She fought well but finally lost out.
Better luck next year Laura.
I've had to turn the TV off now as the screaming from the Sharapova match was getting on my t*ts!!
Int there an Italian girl that got booed in France for grunting so loudly, seems a bit harsh.
Is it me or does Andy Murray look a little like Napoleon Dynamite in that picture above!
I've had to turn the TV off now as the screaming from the Sharapova match was getting on my t*ts!!
+1
It's bloody ridiculous.
Pity for Laura - she's only 15 and a bit though and she seemed to let herself get rattled a bit in the second and third sets. A bright future for her hopefully.
isn't she Australian?

yeah, she is now 😉

I take it her status is now downgraded from English to British
Andy Murray meanwhile remains British for the time being, with possible upgrade to English on the horizon.
with possible upgrade to English on the horizon
in his dreams maybe ...............
with possible upgrade to English on the horizon
He's a c0ck, but he's not that much of a c0ck...
Well done her, I say. 15 years old, up against a well respected player much higher up the rankings and she wins a set. C'mon, that's impressive stuff and bodes well for her future! Good luck to her!
bodes well for her future
You are aware she is the current junior champion at wimbledon?
And only 213 days till she can appear on the A&A thread.
He's a c0ck, but he's not that much of a c0ck...
😆
WackoAK, I am very much aware of that. Her progress here bodes well for her sporting future beyond that.
Darcy, wash your mind out.
LOL, couldn't resist. Seriously though, she's a lovely young lady with a hell of a serve for a fifteen year old. She'll do well - the ladies' game is crap at the moment.
EDIT: By crap, I mean just everybody seems to be playing the same game.
What is at stake here is whether we hate him as much as he hates us.
Who is "us"?
Has AM been slagging off mountain bikers? Forum dwellers? Or is it something else?
I feel sorry for Andy Murray, OK, he's not Tim Henman so that automatically makes most English people hate him, but at least he's not a Canadian pretending to be British, but FFS people he's ranked third, when above him are perhaps the two greatest Men's Tennis players, ever...
But no, we have to hate him, because he's what? A little bit grumpy sometimes? He works hard? He's successful? He's Scottish?
Genuinely don't get the attitude sometimes...
Genuinely don't get the attitude sometimes...
Nope, me neither.
nickc, I think his success at tennis is a side issue for which many people begrudgingly support him. Saying he would support "anyone but England" in a soccer world cup in which Scotland were not present did a little more to mould the English public's opinion of him.
>While we wait for the miserable Scot to sorely disappoint us<
You'd love that wouldnt you...
I don't think anything could have been more miserable than the sign of poor Henman turning up every year and failing to reach the closing stages. Maybe it wont be in 2009 but at least Murray's got what it takes to win the thing.
Ah c'mon Flashy, I suggest you go and find the context of that quote - it gets dragged out every year, and every year he has to go through the rigmarole of explaining the context of it.

Not really, hence using the word "disappoint". I'd rather see a British player win, as it happens.
I think his success at tennis is a side issue for which many people begrudgingly support him
See what I mean?
From Wiki Flash:
Murray explained that his comments were said in jest during a light-hearted interview with sports columnist Des Kelly,[98] who asked him if he would be supporting Scotland in the World Cup, in the knowledge that Scotland had failed to qualify for the tournament.[99] Kelly stated another tabloid had later "lifted a couple of them [comments] into a 'story' that took on a life of its own and from there the truth was lost" and that he despaired over the "nonsensical criticism".[100]
Murray protested that he is "not anti-English and never was"[93] and he expressed disappointment over England's subsequent elimination by Portugal.[101] In an interview with Nicky Campbell on BBC Radio 5 Live, Tim Henman confirmed that the remarks had been made in jest and were only in response to Murray being teased by Kelly[98] and Henman.[102] He also stated that the rumour that Murray had worn a Paraguay shirt was untrue.[102]
In an interview with Gabby Logan for the BBC's Inside Sport programme, Andy said that he was both Scottish and British and was comfortable and happy with his British identity.[103] He said he saw no conflict between the two and was equally proud of them. He has also pointed out that he is quarter English with some of his family originating from Newcastle, his coach is Scottish and that his girlfriend, Kim Sears, is English.[104]
Henman was the one sat alongside him ribbing him about Scotland at that very interview.
I'm sure flashheart would of remembered if he wasn't a drunk 😀
Well thanks a lot deadlydarcy, who am I supposed to aim my bile and contempt at NOW?!
You could try me. I have broad shoulders!
are you scottish? or maybe australian? french?
bloody pooter...
