This is very much a pipe dream at the moment, but I think I might fancy a complete career change and become a teacher. Thing is, you need a degree. So OU it is….

Does anyone have any experience of the OU?

Or what’s your opinion of home study when there are a million other things that have to be done, like work, kids and triathlon training.

My other half has done a few OU courses.

She found it difficult to fit in the study at times, but she did always manage to do it. She's quite disciplined with that kind of thing.
You'll always find time to do it if you want to. It's just whether you are the sort of person who will make the time, or find excuses not to do the work.

not sure, but i will find out in january. i have done home study before and found that you need to be interested in it or it easily falls by the wayside.

I'm half way through an MBA with the OU. I work for myself from home, so can be quite flexible about when and how I study, but there is a lot of material to get through, so you really need to want to do it.
I think there is a lot of variability between faculties too. IMHO the Business School courses are better than the Computer Science courses, so pick a course and then read some of the reviews.
Good luck!

II'll show my age and say that every time I hear Open University, I think of programmes on Sunday Morning on BBC2, hosted by characters like this...

i'm in the home straight of my history degree. I'm on target to have completed it within 3 years 8 months, so not too much longer than full time uni.
it takes dedication and sacrifice. you'll need an understandng and patient family. sdaly from now on you'll also have to be prepared to take on quite a debt.

go for it.
