Got my big birthday next month 😯

I've not been having that much fun lately with one thing and another, and not really planned anything for my birthday, but thought I'd better pull my finger out

I've always fancied scandinavia or croatia, but I'll be travelling alone and am thinking (maybe incorrectly) scandinavia might be an easier place to travel alone

Is it possible to get there and stay for a few days without bankrupting myself?

yes. did norway as a lads holiday a few years ago - the locals thought we were mental (most expensive country in the world etc etc)

flights and a hostel (nicest hostel i've been in) were cheap. it was food & drink, particularly drink. which was expensive. we were in oslo and struggled to eat out - couldn't find anywhere - so invest in a guide book.

do it - it was amazing -

easier place to travel alone
Scandinavians & Danes are some of the friendliest people i've met.

Could be, could not be, currently looking like not.

Its 8 degrees here now, which is as warm as its been.

If you're looking at Göteborg then mail me for details if you want.

Should be pretty easy to find cheap accommodation, but food and drink, especially drink, man alive it's expensive ...

Drink is expensive in bars but not that much different in Systembologet. Food in Supermarkets is getting the same price since I came here 5 years ago. Shop at Willys. If going out do it during the day and get the dagens as they usually have a huge buffet with a nice dish.

Sweden is really cheap if you are hiking/ camping as you can camp where ever you want within reason and there are free camping spots, sometime camping huts with wood, loos, firepits, water for example.

Cities can be expensive but a hotel is no more than in the UK.

Drink and booze is only expensive if you visit the wrong bars!
The bars I go too here in Göteborg are pretty much on par price wise as back home in the uk.
I was in Stockholm last week and that certainly ain't a cheap place to go drinking!!!

For Sweden on the cheap you could always go to your local IKEA...complete with Swedish meatballs and Lingonberry drinks!

I know a guy thats couchsurfed twice in Gothenburg.
http://www.couchsurfing.org if you feel brave.

City centre bars are pricy, but show me a city centre bar anywhere in the world that isn't.

Stockholm last month: 3 small beers & 2 coffees - £38 Not a smart establishment either.
Hotel Allegedly 4 star : £104 as night. Stayed in better Travel Lodges

Avoid if at all possible. People lovely but take a mortgage out before you go

Croatia will be nicer at this time of year, but probably empty - Split is worth a visit.
