We are now choosing flooring, and would like the kitchen floor to match the patio the extension opens on to. Patio has two red brick retaining walls.
Which means stone tiles of some kind.
I was thinking slate but actually I would like a lighter colour as the basement can be a bit dark. Everyone says travertine but I hate it and all the stuff I have seen more than a few years old is full of holes and cracked..
Does it really have to be stone? What about a stone coloured vinyl? Far more practical and you'll get the same visual effect of the inside and outside matching.
I would imagine slate would be a bit of a bore as it scratches easily and you'll be forever oiling it to mask over the lighter marks, which given your view on Travertine, possibly best avoided.
How about Indian Sandstone? Inside you can use a sealer, which will alter its patina a little, but is good, hard wearing, certainly lighter than slate, less prone to scratches and some varieties are colourful to give you the effect of continuity you are seeking.
Google CED porcelain paving, we used it outside, it's like a 2cm thick tile and is impervious to water, so less likely to get mossy. Our builder was impressed until they had to drill through it, then they started swearing, lots.
We've got half honed limestone flags over our ufh. Would look nice if it extended outside I'd imagine .

Ok I am sold on indian sandstone. I like the look of this stuff. Sawn and honed so I can do patio and kitchen in the same material. Has anyone used this company Infinite Paving for supply of sandstone?

Porcelain is 30% harder than granite, so a bugger to drill into, you need special 'bits'. Its the ideal product for inside/outside spaces but only if its a low slip surface. This stuff is italian and pukka gear.

Some cheaper tiles have a coating that wears off after a few years of heavy use, be aware.
Andy K where did you get your half honed limestone from? We like that too.
