Seems like Netflix are buying up any film that doesn't do too well at the box office - seems like a great idea to me.
Anyway I forgot to go see this mid Feb in the cinema, turns out Netflix have bought it and it's released tomorrow.
Great series of books, not sure it'll make a particularly good film but I'm sure it'll be watchable .
Thanks for the PSA! I've been following the progress if this film for a while, and like yourself wasn't able to see it at the cinema. Nice one!
Been looking forward to this.
I’ve read a review for it and I’m hoping it doesn’t disappoint.
Thanks for that - just looked it up on IMDB - average reviews of 7.8 and critic metascore of 79 so looks like it could be a good one.
Ex Machina was an amazing movie!! 🙂
I’m hoping it comes out on Sky.. what are the chances?
Netflix bought the rights as the studio were worried it was too intelligent for audiences. It was then given a very limited release AFTER netflix obtained the rights, so not sure it’s entirely accurate to say it bombed at the box office, it was only realeased in a very limited way?
I loved the books so am keen to watch it, most likely settle down tomorrow evening to catch it.
Reviews from the papers seem to be good.
Spoiler possible review and background to Netflix obtaining the film here from the Guardian https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/film/2018/feb/22/annihilation-review-natalie-portman-thriller-leaves-a-haunting-impression

Oooo didn't know that, I just assumed as it dissappeared very quickly from my local cinemas....
Loved the look of the trailers so had purchased the books.
Not got around to reading them yet. Hmm, books or film first.
I'm halfway through the first book so am avoiding reviews of the film in case of spoilers, but my usual reading time is in bed at midnight with the lights off, kindle on lowest backlight setting. Annihilation is getting a bit creepy for that though. :O
First book is great, 2nd is OK (, third is just odd......)
I'd read the books first (amazing).
But the film is based loosely on the books I believe. JVM says he likes the interpretation from Alex Garland but I know he misses out some pretty big parts of the book in it.
Watching tonight... will report back (no spoilers)
Just finished watching it. I absolutely loved it, right up my strasse. If you like films that ask question then this is the one for you. Amazing stuff!! 🙂

Netflix are the disturbers for the everywhere expect USA and I think China, after a disagreement with the studios.
Just watched it... quite enjoyed it. For some reason despite having oodles of bandwidth the picture wasn't too sharp. In any case, it didn't detract, interesting film, lovely visuals, great sound.

I'd give it: 1st intriguing and odd enough to want to read the 2nd which is utterly pointless bar maybe a chapter or two which progress the story, which means dragging one's sorry arse to the bookshop to buy number 3 in a (fruitless) effort to work out what the AF is going on, which is difficult because 1.the author isn't really interested in plot, and 2. the actual bits of narrative that drive the story are small, hidden, badly written or oblique enough that you'll miss them on your first pass.
Its an odd sensation, looking forward to a film of a book that i was pleased finally to finish, while at the same time feeling propriatorial about the original work and its translation to film... 🤔
I've started a spoiler thread to preserve the enjoyment for anyone who hasn't seen it yet:

I'm looking forward to watching this tonight.
Anyone else not seeing this listed? On Samsung TV...... wonder if it thinks i’m in the states for some reason.....?
I'm watching it now: For some reason it kinda reminds me of Event Horizon on Earth.

I had to search for it.
really enjoyed it and would recommend to others - put my thoughts on the spoilers thread.
Mother inlaw didn't enjoy it as much
Even searching didn’t work. Now attempted to turn the internets off and on to see if that helps
EDIT: found via iPad and sent to tv that way - odd
I didn't have to search for it at all (it was on my front page) so it may be a connection issue.
I gave it a go but thought it was pretty poor to be honest. I can see why it wouldn't have lasted long at the cinema. I'm not really sure what it was trying to do or if it was meant to thought provoking but it certainly wasn't particularly entertaining. It has made me want to go and watch Sunshine again though so something good has come of it. A good PSA if only for that.
