Not sure whats gone on. When I click that link above it says I'm already registered but theres no invite email in my chess.com mails, like previous tournaments, & I don't remember accepting any invite (which tallies with your shout out to accept)...
Any ideas?!
Yes indeed 👍
As long as I'm in. By hook or by rook right?!
My mistake 2bit. You are in as 2bitbish. I had invited a random player with Chess.com username 2bit. Now cancelled.

Sorry guys, missed the invite message! Trying to accept now, but getting "This tournament is already full" messages.
Looking forward to this, i missed tournaments 2 and 3, watching number 1 progress slowly has been painful, the second round i played both the best and worst chess games I have ever played.
watching number 1 progress slowly has been painful,
Apologies for that. Setting the number of days per move to keep a tournament ticking along but not so fast that people time-out because they forgot to log on each day after breakfast is a little trial and error. In hindsight 5 days per move was too long.
I am still playing a 14 day per move one which I think I joined in a past life...
I am still playing a 14 day per move one which I think I joined in a past life…
I'm in a tournament where one of my opponents went on vacation for 2.5 months until his/her vacation time was used up at which point his/her clock started ticking and the game was lost on time 24hrs later. His/her last dozen games were time outs.
Probably the best answer is just not to worry and forget about stalled tournaments. If you have a few tournaments going at once some will be active and some stalled waiting for a round to finish.
I'm currently involved in 21 tournaments but only have 21 active games.

OK. Currently 23 players joined.
I've made the max group size 9. So the Chess.com computer will split the players into 2 groups of 8 and 1 group of 7.
Top 3 qualify for a final round with 9 players.
I would like all players to make at least one move per day to keep it moving. I have changed the time limit to 2 days. The effect of this means you can make daily moves at any time of day. With a 1 day limit if you move at 9am the next day you need to move before 9am. With a 2 day limit any time is good.
Starting the tournament at 1900 tonight.
Still time for Iancity29, Jordan_k,Jordan_ke, and Marzipan1994 to join as there is 4 spaces left.

And we're off! Tournament started. Good luck all.
I think I probably need to apologise to @RamseyNeil for that fluked win. There was no plan in that, I was busy trying to avoid your knights and then you opened that diagonal!
However it has got me back to a 1400 rating after @beiciwr64 hammered me yesterday and dropped me down the rankings!
That was quick! 8 games already. I'm not past move 17 in any of my STW games.
Currently got 33 games on the go mind you.
@irc I don't think I could cope with 33 games on at the same time!! We're up to move 20 now! I'm trying to stay in it!
Are you playing blitz or daily games?! :p very impressive.

I just sit at a desk all day and have my phone next to me!
Loving the tournament, got battered a few times but hung in there in some others. I am definitely not going through! Only played the 10 minute games before and I'm learning loads.
Swapping back to the 10 minute games is tricky though. A couple of times I've moved in the 10 minute games expecting to have the chance to confirm.

I too am thoroughly enjoying it, although I’m not sure I’m learning much - three moves in and I’m bamboozled. Can you play a league instead of a tournament, so that everyone would get to play everyone else?
I did think that perhaps after all the games are played that we could create a separate tournament(s) for those that did not qualify by invite only. That way everyone gets to keep playing and at a similar level.
I don't know if a tiered league would be possible?? I think a 20+ player league might be a bit overwhelming.
Yes good idea.
What about the top three go through and play each other (as planned) the rest split in 2 to play another 2 leagues?
There should be enough players for that as it will split into two groups of 7. If it is done on finishes in these current round, then it would be a table of say 6 and 8 or 9 and 5. Or we could say best 6th finisher joins league 2... all of which sounds a bit complicated! There might be some who do not want to do a continue as well. Perhaps best see who wants to continue with a separate tournament once this round is done and take it from there.
I hate knights. Can we get rid of knights please?
I also would be up for continuing something after this tournament is over, even with knights.
Thanks for setting this up
Enjoying it despite losing the first two games.
Easy enough to set up another tournament for those who don't qualify for the final.
Max group size is 12. So if all 14 non qualifiers wanted in it would be 2 groups of 7.
Probably worth doing. Playing someone of near equal strength means games are not a near foregone conclusion.
Once the rating difference is 400 the higher rated player is expected to score 90%

When I'm picked non STW tournaments to join I look for under 1700 tournaments as a 1550 player.
Cheers @irc for the extra tourny info.
I do think that some of the elo ratings in this tourny don't properly reflect the actual skill level though!
Definitely some weirdly low rankings - I was comfortably beaten by someone ranked 200-and-something at the time, when I was 870-something.

When you first join on there or if you haven't played for a while, you're given a low rating by default.
I found that out the hard way when I rather underestimated @2bit (ranked about 800 at the time I was playing) and lost the first game. His ranking is now about 1150 which seems much more at the level he was actually playing!
I'm on a bit of a losing streak at the moment - got two tournaments on the go, the non-STW one is Round 2 of something I joined ages ago. Getting thrashed in that so my rating which briefly touched 1400 is falling back rather rapidly.
Loving the tournament and +100 thanks for setting them all up.
Similar experience to others.
Had totally forgotten T1 existed it's been (or at least feels like) such a long time ago.
Have had various experiences playing players ranked both below and above me who, I reckon, have played well above/below their respective rankings. It's definitely more surprising when someone plays (well) above their current rank 😁.
As much as I'm loving playing daily I find myself getting frustrated with my lack of consistency. Anyone else?
There are some hours (sometimes whole days) when I see 'it' (matrix style (not really)) & moves are obvious well in advance & I can see what I think my opponent is trying to do. That sounds far more queen's gambit than it actually is but it's the best I can describe it.
Then there are the other times (the majority of times) where I'm either impatient or its been a while since my last move (wanting to play & further the game but not really taking the time to think), don't see 'it' and/or have forgotten what I was planning/had seen due to either so many games on the go or trying to cram in some moves whilst not really concentrating.
It's soooo frustrating seeing games slip away when you know it's your fault & you could/should have seen what your opponent was planning.
I used to play when I was in school many moons ago for the school club, a chess club, county & national teams (once, just as I was falling out of chess) and it was definitely very different then sitting down for 2 hours solely concentrating on a single game than today's 'multi game on the phone at all times of the day'.
Think it's an interesting reflection of how I am now, how busy & cluttered my days/life are/is (especially at the moment being v busy with work & doing long hours) & how I deal/ cope and fluctuate daily with it.
Chess - mirror of the soul?!
Might have to start using the notes function in games to try & keep a handle on any 'strategy' I'm planning...
I’ve been lucky in my last few games and got onto a bit of a roll. Had a fun game with sillysilly that ended in a draw. Another game against Stevo-mcd that seemed close, until a couple of classy moves by him tore right through my defence.
I like the starts of the tournament, where there are a number of games on the go and the moves come in thick and fast. Unfortunately, it loses excitement for me when you have to wait 48 hours for the next move. Some people have completed over 10 games, some none so far. But them’s the rules, I need to learn to be more Zen.
Slow play warning. I'll be in the Cairngorms with no phone signal Saturday - Monday so after making moves in all my games around 2pm Saturday I may not be active until Monday. Unless I get a signal on the tops on Sunday.
I've played all my games in Round 1!
This is the downside of playing quickly - there's then months of waiting around for everyone else to finish!
I'm in another tournament at the moment where I progressed to the next round and it's just a 1 on 1 (two games on the go). Oh my God, the other player is slow.
I’ve played all my games in Round 1!
Some have not finished a game yet!
Is it too soon to start tournament 5?
I'll pass on a new STW tournament right now. I'm in 23 tournaments which means 20 to 30 active games. Depends how many are stalled waiting for games to finish like STW1 is.
Of course if there is enough interest someone else could set up STW5.
Gauss1777 just challenged you to a game while we wait for the tournament to progress. No doubt you will kick my ass again
