Terence Trent Darcy was my first thought too. Read a piece on him in the grauniad recently. He's about to (or already has) release(d) an album. He really did go quite weird once the fame died down.

I have to applaud those even guessing based on the limited info. Name a black guy from 90/91 - that narrows it down a bit eh ? Is the year even correct ? 🙂

First thought was Roachford, but the word 'shit' wasn't in the description.
What about Dan Reed Network? (not 100% sure he was black)

Def 1990/91. It was more rocky, a bit like Kravitz, which was unusual at the time. Got played alot at Wormleighton Young Farmers discos at the time if that help at all.

Not a bloke, but Skunk Anansie were about then, she was a bit baldy and belted out a tune. Enough to confuse a few people at the time, but then it was a simpler age...

A.R Kane? - bit earlier than 90/91, but not so much earlier to be still be getting an airing at a Young Farmers disco. Generally a bit more Shoe-gaze-y than Kravitz though

{edit - ah - I see you've got it}
