Oh yeah, I think I'm in, as long as this is a +1 situation.

Mrs 16 has gone through too much to be left gnashing her teeth at home!

Spending a lot of time idle with an inability to concentrate. This is frustration...

@ scuzz

Your inability to concentrate is a classic symptom for the just-turned-ex-smoker.

It does get better. Promise.

Satsuma?

This is no longer a thread. It's a movement.

Nice going, randomjeremy!

It's been three weeks for me, which means I've saved well over £100.

The knowledge that I have wasted huge heaps of cash on smokes makes me feel one-third 😳 , one-third 👿 and one-third 😥 .

Camo - Mrs16 is more than welcome.

Sweet! I'll confirm tomorrow dude.

Thanks Camo16, it was kind of a happy accident, I was rushing to catch a plane and left my smokes at home, didn't have time to buy any more on the way to the airport either. By the time I'd landed at my destination, sorted out a car and got on the road it had been nearly a day already, and I thought "I'll try this". That was 11 days ago and I can't see myself going back now.

I feel tired all the time which I guess is because I don't have the drug coursing my veins, but I'm sleeping deeply which is good. Taste is better already, smell better, and that smokers' guilt has gone. I swear smoking makes a person depressed!

I even went for a 2 mile run yesterday.....

Don't be hard on yourself though Lady G. See the reduction as part of winning the war. You might lose the odd battle, but the aim is to be healthier, right? So, any reduction is a good thing.

Tomorrow, try to only have two. And so on.

Tell you what; I heard Khani coughing up some right nuggets today, I was actually quite frightened. 😥

Don't worry fella. Its ok to fall off. Just get back on when you're ready. I've been off for 3 weeks now. I've done the maths this morning and I reckon I've saved £120.60.

That's some serious motivation. Specifically that represents exactly one fifth of the cost of a Kona Blink at JE James at the moment. Not that there's any reason I'm using that as a frame of reference. That was just a simple comparison I plucked out of the air 😉

It's that three-week thing Yeti was on about, morgs.

Deep breath, re-read your original posts and go again when you're ready.

Oops is it ok to mention doors?

Depends. Are they back doors? 😆

It's been a rubbish few days for the 16 household, too. I was mentally totting up the cash I'd saved from denying the advances of Mr. John Player (£125) and thinking about a fancy new ride. Then we found an infestation of wood worm thingies in our back room that's going to take £200 to put right. One step forward, two steps back...

There have been moments of weakness.

But I don't want to be a smoker any more. That's my bottom (fnarf fnarf) line.

Good luck all.

Morgs - you're still officially awesome to me. Fenred - slam those doors in Mr. Benson's face, dude. It's not too late!

And all giving-up smokers* are allowed to mention doors ... its a special temporary reprive granted by the women's lib police 😉

*actually, surely some of you are now 'EX-SMOKERS'! Yey, permission is now awarded to be an annoying smug bar-steward ...

C'mon, Khani, you and me...

* coughs *

Risin' up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance
Now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive

Hell yeah.

Round two, anyone?

So many times, it happens too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

Here's a little quiz to keep us inspired:

Those who are temporarily off the wagon are welcome to join in!

Q1: So, you've come this far. Well done. But do you still think fags are cool?

Not so much. Bedraggled smokers clinging to dry space in office doorways is not a good look.

Q2: What's the worst smoking-related noise?

That foul whistle laugh that 'mature' smokers hack out. If cigarette buyers heard that sound at the exact moment they bought their 20 Bensons, smoking would be eradicated in less than a month.

Q3: What's the best thing about quitting?

Feeling fitter, richer and, quite frankly, a little bit smug.

Q4: Are you still feeling it for satsumas?

Hell yeah. Bring on their juicy health goodness! Apples, on the other hand, can **** off.

Q4: Any smoke-related trivia for Camo?

When I'm old and grey - that's when I'll sport a massive beard/moustache combo and carry Werthers Originals wherever I go – I may just take up pipe smoking. 😳

Your turn!

Q1-no, not for a long time
Q2-GNNNAAARRGGGHHCHE!!!! Don't miss making that sound in the morning
Q3 I can breath when I'm going uphill, you'd think I'd have noticed earlier that I couldn't before
Q4 yes, it's been a rocky road, but changing variety helps
Q5 tobacco has formaldehyde in it 😯

Q1 - Far from it!
Q2 - When laughing your head off dissolves into a massive coughing fit
Q3 - Enjoying not going through cash at the same rate. I'm definitely climbing better on't bike
Q4 - My skin seems a lot better, less dry with all the vitamin C I'm ingesting

Nicotine from a cigarette reaches the brain in 8 seconds, which is faster than the time it takes for injected heroin or cocaine, which is about 12 seconds.

So shall we slow things down and get a crack habit?

On a personal note - I have still cut down, but it ain't helped working this week with a couple of colleagues who smoke.
Are you still going for drinkies next week? Can I still come along and will someone beat me with a big stick into actually quitting completely?
