A mate of mine was planning to propose to his girlfriend later in the week when they're away on a long weekend city break. However, he's just found out that her sister got engaged at the weekend and is now wondering whether he should wait a while.

I've been telling him this mornign just to do it as it's his/their life etc. but he's worried about creating an angry sister in-law and sisterly rivalry. He thinks he should maybe wait a month or so.

From what I know the sisters used to get on really well but are not close at the minute.

he can propose and they just dont have to tell anyone for a while. Adds a little bit of tingliness to it all anyway.

Tell him good luck!!

Just do it, stop fannying around. Proposing is between two people not a whole flippin family.

If that's they kind of thing that would get sisters angry with each other (esp as it's his decision not hers) then they need to have a good hard look at themselves and their attitudes towards life.

@TSY, why should he be so lucky and get away without being married?

He should ask the other sister to marry him - that would really cause a scene.

He could do this whilst actually stepping on his current girlfriend's toes, just for added effect.

He still has a chance to back out. Any other advise is just being a poor mate.

Are the sisters lesbians?

Are the sisters lesbians?

from what I understand from porn films, this is quite likely.

This is the scenario I found myself in many years ago.
Now hubby had planned to ask me on a New years eve, however during the planning stage, younger sister's boyfriend proposed on the bonfire night several weeks earlier.

I had to just take a step back and let her have her glory. It did mean I couldn't go to any wedding shows (wasn't bothered) and couldn't have my mum's attention for my wedding.
We ended up just sorting out our small wedding ourselves without any help.

She was pretty nasty about it at one point.

I would go ahead and try to be calm and mature about what may happen.

Well discussing toes has resulted in this...

But Al and Jons posts haven't resulted in anything 😥

In reply to your actual post though...after we got engaged a friend who was also one of two sisters who were going to be bridesmaids got engaged a few months later. They got married 6 months before we did (they arranged it quickly). Not a problem as such, just our wedding was secondary to theirs and as a result neither sister was particularly interested in our wedding or my wife's hen do, which upset my other half a bit.

it's like me and my mrs we were getting married 2 days before her sister. It caused all sorts of problems.

In the end we just moved our wedding to an earlier date, so that we got married first mohahahaha
