What would you do pay up or ignore? I got a ticket for a hire car I was driving in Holland. 190 euros by the end of the month or it doubles .

Is there any comeback or would i just get hastle next time I try and get into Holland.

Don't know about the Dutch, but the Swiss are crazy strict about this (Jon Snow's autobiography has a good anecdote about him being dragged out of a hotel naked for this very reason...)

I got a ticket in Holland and just ignored the letters, a year later I went to Amsterdam on business and when I was coming home passport control swiped my passport and pulled me into Schipol police station.

As it happen I wasn't driving the but it was hired in my name which I explained to them. They were very polite and informed me that if I wanted to contest the fine I would need to do that to the judge the follwing day, in the meantime I would be held over night in a cell!

I paid the 80 euro fine and got on the plane!

If you never intend to go back to Holland ignore it, otherwise pay up.

Cheers

Neill

I got a letter telling me that they'd apply to have me extradited if I didn't cough up the 120 Gilder fine

I think you used to be able to ignore them - but now they will catch up with you eventually

I can't comment with any accuracy or citations (just like all STW advice, then 😉 ) but enough to say with changes to enforceability of foreign judgements, European Arrest Warrants, much more cross-border debt collection etc etc the last 10 years has just about seen the end of the days where you were safe in one country from problems incurred in another.

See a chiropodist and pay the fine, no escaping now as the police all talk to each other.

I paid online for a train ticket as I had underpaid on one fare in Australia as I missed the dam station from being not paying attention.

The officer let me through and when I offered to pay the remaining 20 cents the machine wasn't working.

He took all my details and I paid online as it would be recorded that I didn't pay against my visa etc and would have gone from $1 to $150.

Clear it as they will catch up with you from the hire company.

€190 is cheaper than €380!
