Is it just me, or is there an air of desperation in the retail sector. It seems that almost every email I get at the moment is a special offer from someone-or-other. I don't recall it being like this last year, or any year previously.

Bike shops do seem to be sending out lots of deals. I'm deleting them before opening for self preservation reasons.

Especially from Wiggle. I must get at least one 'The Most Amazing Offers Ever!' mail from them a day.

I've unsubscribed from so many mailing lists recently as the ammount of spam seems to have rocketed.

Seem to be some good deals on atm - pre Xmas I guess.

Blacks 33% off, Boots have £10 points for £50 spend next week.

Might as well...

I'd hang on a bit before buying from Blacks, possibly more discount in the near future.

I just got an email offer from a hotel for the Christmas period.

Tonight between 5pm & 10pm we are offering 2 nights for the price of 3 for our Christmas packages at The Torridon.
😆

Wiggle, play.com, edinburgh cycle coop, rutland cycling, eveans ,parker international, crc, staples, ocado, and loads more all sending good discounts all deleted as i dont want to spend cash.

And as for the shops theyre almost dead with customers actually buying stuff, a large cycle retailer down the road, large car park absolutely empty most times of day when i pass, hopefully they will have a good day on wednesday.

A lot of shops seem to have done the US thing of having a Black Friday sale following Thanksgiving.

The thing is I think most of us have become so conditioned to sales that 25% off doesn't seem much and we now expect 50% off for it to be classed as a good deal. Well I know I do! 😳

Hah, I read this after having read the Tredz and Merlin offers emails!

They can be mildly annoying - but they are a proven traffic and sales driver, so people do actually still respond to them - and they are cheap as chips to produce hence they are the best form of communication with customers at the moment and relatively in-offensive for customers who can un-subscribe or hit delete or just leave then to filter into junk and be auto-deleted.

Every Friday afternoon I have an e-mail from a bike shop who offers 10% off all orders made before Monday 9am.

I can't see why anyone would buy from them at any other time as I get the e-mail every Friday without fail!
