Reminds me of an X5 that pulled onto a wide pavement in the middle of Tring in front of me and a mate and, after putting his special 'park anywhere' flashing lights on, went to the bank to get some money out.

I have to pass it most Friday and Saturday nights and there are always taxis parked on the lines and crossing, sometimes in both directions at the same time dropping off and waiting to pick up. Ive started to wind the window down to ask them why. Usual reply is that they are exempt, I think they actually believe it.
Not sure but I think its an offence to go round them whilst they are stood.

There's a crossing near us which has the zig zags, followed by a short length of double yellow next to it. I can't remember the last time I walked past and there wasn't someone parked on the zig zags or double yellow.

I was minding my own business ton. My business at that moment being to cross the road at a spot where it's safe to do as long as everybody respects that there are zigzags either side of a pedestrian crossing.

Yeah, same for this one. Shop just down on the left after the van. And a PO across the road. On the RHS of the pic, you can see a bus about to try and get round the van. I reckon, the passenger entrance of the bus is over the PC...that's how close the van is.

The van driver wasn't the one I had a chat with btw. He looked a bit like he'd give me a bit of fist pie. So I just posted the photo on his company's FB page and twitter account. I'm brave like that, see. 🙂

pretty sure walkers are at more risk from a cycle on a footpath than from none being there...how large it is we can debate but it is clearly an additional risk.

I take photos of cars parked on the zigzags outside my daughters school and send them to the head teacher as they supposedly forward the information to the authorities. I am pretty sure some parents think that their kids legs will fall off if they have to walk.

I think theyre all out today. Ive just driven home past a pair of old duffers in their Volvo estate..with the boot tailgate wide open, on the motorway. Utterly oblivious to the numerous people trying to tell them their boot is open.

I have just had to park over the road from the chippy, and walk over cos some numpty was parked where I usually park...... 🙄

Ihad an exchange with a Gentlman for over taking me (in my car) at a junction, I flashed him ashe almost hit a pedestrian,(there are no footpaths or lighting).He then blocked the road with his (guess what car) got out and started shouting, what buissness is it of your how or where i over take i did nothing wrong you ignorant female genitals. I agree it is non of my buissness but if he chooses to put me and another person in danger it becomes my buisness.

If the council have put lines there, they have done it for a reason people breaking the rules should be punished or taught what they are there for.

DD, if I spent my time having words with folk, for things that bug me, and there are many, I would have more scrapes than you can ever imagine.

@ton, I used to use this PC a fair bit, but since mini dd came along and I do a fair bit of daddy day care, I have to use it sometimes, five six times a day on walks, nearly always with a buggy and/or a dog. I can safely say, on days when I'm not at work, doing drop offs at the childminder, or looking after him all day, I will see a driver (often large-ish delivery trucks/vans) parked on the zigzags at least once, but usually multiple times. Today was a bit of a final straw moment. Mind you, I tried to engage with the guy politely, not aggressively. I understand I've gone a bit "won't somebody think of the children" about it, but I suppose wheeling a buggy about focuses the mind somewhat onto how much of our space and freedom as pedestrians we've ceded to the car.

To the left of the van below, is the PO. Look how close he is to the PC (legal and safe parking may have required him to walk for perhaps a minute or so). When you're using it all the time during the day, this stuff gets a bit grating.

Call the rozzers - they sent out the pretend police to stand outside my kids' school when the IPLAC brigade started using the zig zags outside as their valet parking spot. Surprisingly effective, helped by one particular moron who parked on the zig zags, next to the PC and school gate tight in front of them! He really was that stupid. Usual stereotypes apply, fat, would have to walk more than 10 seconds to legally park etc

Although these knuckle scrapers have (largely) stopped doing it since the 5-0 turned up, they now take turns to park in the driveway of a house opposite the school - yet to witness a householder - fat arse confrontation as yet but it has to happen...

Cars seem to turn people into psychopaths - aggressive bullies who have no care for anyone else's needs...

The sooner self-driving cars come along the better, driving is encouraging so much unhealthy behaviour it's astonishing.

Just for perspective, c3500 people died in The Troubles from 1960s-1998 but 1754 died on UK roads in just one year in 2012, and we continue to treat driving as some kind of human right which must be defended at all costs...

Well in a similar incident I am renovating my house

I had picked up some solid wood flooring, which was pretty heavy, and was dropping it off at the new house

There were no parking spaces on the road outside. At the end of the row of houses, the end house has a bit of a driveway which had his car parked on it, and a dirt road next to that, which needs access for the people that live there

There is a single white line which runs for about 3 car lengths across the entrance for this guys drive and the dirt road

I put the van there (I know, the shame 🙄 ) while I unloaded about 10 heavy boxes of flooring

As soon as I had started carrying the first box to the house, I saw the curtains twitching and he was out.

'You can't park there'
'I know, I'm not parked, I just need to unload a bit of flooring and then I'll move the van'
'I need it clear to get my car out'
'Oh sorry, I didn't know you were going out, just let me put this down and I'll move it'

And I repeat for page 2, I didn't have some massive aggressive go at the guy, just tried asking him why he was parking there. He just waltzed off after calling me a name, which I didn't catch and I wasn't going to pursue it any further, believe me. But he just might think twice about doing it again, you never know.

I think DD is making a good point which not only can I empathise with, was discussed on a popular radio talk show earlier this week.

The point being, if we wandered around ignoring such transgressions, does it not lead to a general apathy that essentially means those that choose to park in dangerous places, kick their ball against the side of my house, speed in a school dropoff area, swear in front of my kids etc will get away with, not respect the reasoning behind it and moderate thier behaviour, and effectively, it gets worse.

Last time I has cause to speak, I has parked in a Parents bay in Sainsbury's - those wide one that allow you to open your doors to full with and slot the kids in. So, why did the lady next to me not only park in the bay with NO kids onboard (she has kiddie chairs though m ight I tell you) BUT park so close that I couldn't get Miss KJ02 in her seat? Try borrowing a wheelchair and seeing how far you get before you get blocked in by parked cars.

jools182's story reminds me of something my mate said the other week, he'd been doing house up had a shed load of rubble to get rid of, bagged up heaved it out back, too much for one trip to the tip in his motor so took 1 load came back to find someone had moved the rest all the way around the block and put it in his front yard. Someone either a bit keen on the "you're not leaving that there are you" and taking matters into their won hands or just couldn't take the confrontation of actually verbalising it. not sure.
