No big questions for you.

But if you have any useful largely [b][i]free[/i][/b] resources you can point me in the direction of it would be most appreciated.

Articles, webinars, podcasts, websites, social media and the law(especially as it relates to the charity industry, and any Scottish legal content), news sources, in person seminars, etc etc. Anything really that provides guidance on making the most of the resource. Please fire away.

One thing that would be extremely useful is guidance on writing styles for social media.

Our budget is set, and it's set to "can't hire a professional, gonna need to wing it" just for the moment.

I do social media for a Scottish charity as part of my many roles at work.

GCVS and EVOC do cheap training days on this.

As a children and play focused organisation, our style is quite informal, but we do think about what goes out, especially if it is pics or articles about specific schools or children. We don't do negative.

We try to go for questions, interesting news, useful articles, bits of fun on Friday pm. We don't do 'me, me, me' I hope.

I have worked hard to increase audience and content.

I use hoot suite to manage it all (the free one) and just go to individual pages for stats and such like.

We often differentiate channel to audience - generally for us it is professionals and teachers that use twitter, teachers and parents that use Facebook, google+ who knows... And youtube is everyone.

Can't advise you on the writing style but learn how the various stats work and build it into your processes so you can see if what you are doing is making a difference. It should be possible to tell what sorts of articles people read etc. With Youtube you can see at what point people get bored and stop looking at your videos.

Yeh. We have, and are developing the "personality" of the channels we use. There are some definite challenges in striking the right balance of very serious, but positive and cheerful.

Yep, increasingly seeing this with regards to the audiences. Google analytics throws up some interesting data to from the home website.

Haven't looked at that on You Tube, to be honest I've just used it as a platform for providing video on other channels and the website. But will have a mooch around than you.

YouTube can be a rather good way of driving traffic if you are lucky. If you get accepted as a non-profit then you can also start adding links on the video to drive visitors to your main site. What we found is what you already know in that videos can't be too long but also that people start to turn off once you stay too long on someone standing their just telling you something and you will find that people turn off as soon as the credits start rolling so get your pitch in before then.

Loads of info. in the stats - it's just finding the time to look at it all 🙁

I'm basically in charge of running our department's (Local Authority Building Control) twitter account. Limited training been offered to be honest, but there's loads of free stuff out there on google.

A couple of the most important things are to engage with local people and organisations as much as possible - that will drive traffic and followers more than most other means, and to use relevant hashtags, getting your tweets seen is the most important thing.

I'd also recommend using a social media manager/app like Hootsuite, it makes it easy to view all your feeds and activity in one place.

Don't get dragged into arguments.

We have had one argument(bit of a strong word tbh), we didn't participate in it. It was dealt with by our supporters.

Our only response was to put out more new posts pushing it into the background.
