We ordered sky TV today.. mainly because we live behind a big hill and get no reliable freeview signal to speak of..

so what's worth watching..?

(not interested in any American sci-fi, American drama series or American sit-coms)

What package have you got and why didn't you find out what you wanted to watch before getting it?

I would of gone Free sat.

I love watching reruns, reruns and more reruns. im not going to pay more than a tv license to do so.

If you missed that box office movie it will be on an hour later then another hour later all day long.

sky sucks!

Personally I find American Sci-fi, sit-coms and (some) drama's/thrillers to be far more engaging/entertaining than the British dross that is churned out. Please don't tell me that you think that Dr Who is decent sci-fi.....

many of the us dramas are far better than the british slush we are told is good for us.. you have to look hard and use sky + for everthing ( if only to avoid the 6 minute ad breaks..

Sorry to piss on your parade but I would google freesat.

Much the same (loads more free stuff, but less "other" free stuff, neither of which you knew existed), but for an initial paymennt (approx £50) and no monthly payment (sky costs approx £180 pa for "free" stuff as far as I can tell).

But - but - BIG but - if you have a specific interest that sky covers then go for it.

When you do get Sky - you must watch Two and a Half Men - Charlie Sheen at his very best, despite what you think of him in real life

is it too late to cancel?

giving money to murdoch and not liking american stuff leaves you with maybe some quality tv programming with danny dyer or ross kemp?

you could get a freesat hd recorder for 150 quid and not have your IQ dragged into the gutter by ruperts tv

if you don't think something like The Wire, The Sopranos or Curb Your Enthusiasm are worth watching, just forget it and read a book instead.

They're re-running Flight of the Conchords on SkyAtlantic.

I can't believe I missed it the first time round. It's brilliant. 🙂

Discovery channels and history channels. American pickers is worth the subs on it's own!

No freesat in our area either.

The 'sat' in question is 32000 km above the equator, so it's in everyone in this part of the worlds area
Look up at around 20 degrees in a SE direction, that's where it is

If you can get Sky, you can get Freesat

Big difference between Sky and Freesat (at least at the moment) is the quality of the hardware and software of the PVR boxes.
Sky's HD box is pretty faultless and works beautifully.

My experience of Freesat and other PVR boxes is that the interface is usually quite clunky in comparison.

As soon as this changes, I'll make the switch - I'll need some convincing though.

Sky TV is a proper rip off, as already explained. And owt you can't get on standard Freeview, can be found on tinternet somewhere for free. 😉

What's that? It's 'stealing'? Yes, but it's ok because it's Rupert Murdoch you're stealing from. 😀 Completely morally justifiable.

Get a good deal on your sky HD package, get it installed, run it for a year then cancel your contract. Bingo - Freesat for similar cost with better hardware.

But you can't use the PVR features of the Sky+ HD box unless you continue to pay Sky £10 per month I think...

I'm on Sky+ HD at the moment but expect I'll buy a Humax Foxsat HDR box or Samsung smt-s7800 (currently £170 instore at Richer Sounds with £30 cashback available from Samsung) and go to FreeSat.

Or, maybe Google TV will be something to look into?

Well I've just enjoyed watching a live football match (Liverpool V Bolton) for free. 😀

How much is it a month to be able to do so with Sky?

This place is really starting to get on my tits again at the moment

Praps you just need to chill out a bit; maybe have a nice massage or something? 🙂

If that's stepping into the 21st century I'd rather step into a swimming pool of lion shit personally. I do like Dr. Who though 😆

Yunki said he wasn't interested in American sit-coms, so it was a recommendation of a decent American sit-com. Where on earth did I proclaim it to be the best Sky had to offer? Jesus Christ

That sounds good, I'll look into it.
Have you used Sky's boxes in the past, for comparison?
