Here's my two - arrived a couple of days ago. Fourteen weeks old and hellishly devious.

Never thought I'd want pets, but I'm glad the kids wore me down. 🙂

[img] [/img]

As I'm around during the day, I seem to have been given the poo-shovelling role. Any tips for kitten keeping?

Tips for kitten-keeping? I dunno, kittens are bastards IME!

Here's the stray who chose us as his owners - Scratbag (though he has many other names):

[img] [/img]

Scratbag is amazing - think he's about 18 now and we thought he was on his way out years ago - still going strong!

And here's Biscuit (who's cute but a little swine):

The one at the back is thinking: "just you wait, I'll get my own back" 😛

Kittens will get everywhere as they are insatiably curious about their surroundings. It's part of a cat's nature and the phase will pass but until then be prepared to get them off the top of kitchen cupboards; wardrobes; out from beneath the kitchen sink waste; off the top of curtain rails.

Give them a litter tray that's in a quiet location, they'll soon use it in preference to anywhere else in the house. If they are sleeping then let them sleep, don't let the kids continually pester them they'll become highly strung and not particularly sociable otherwise. (The cats that is, no idea about your kids 😀 )

I'll bite on this one.

Molly looking slightly derp - got her when she was 4 after a very abusive upbringing, took nearly a year to get her on our side.

[img] [/img]

Sits in a box if you place it on the floor.

SO's cat Benji, stays with the SO's parents as he doesn't get along

I've already accepted that my place in the pecking order has just gone down even further.

This amuses them:

Apparently I learnt something new from the interweb other day which is not to leave a bowl of water for them near their food as they prefer it that way.

I had a Rescue cat who lived until 20 or so and had a whole family of them larger than my own.

I now have recently inherited 2 Tonkinese brothers who by very nature have traits of being chilled out whilst becoming lively at a moments notice.
Great lads!

One of them seems to like me far too much as he jumps up and suckles my ear lobe and kisses me a lot.
I of course tell him where to go if I've seen him just lick his stinky pinky hehe.

Paddy, got him from a cats protection shelter, not had him long and he's still very shy but very friendly once lured out of hiding! they gave him to us as a domestic long hair but looking on wikipedia we're quite sure he's mostly Norwegian forest cat, massive paws and even the fur underneath for walking on the snow!

Just realised I have no decent pics of my cat Masha, "the cat who came in from the cold". So you will have to settle for a video. She is a proper feral farm cat who lived in one of my barns for several years before I managed to persuade her that life in the house would be more comfortable. She now hardly ever goes out!!

Zion helping us with storage issues.

Got him as a kitten, taken from a high rise in Hull with 16 other cats. The owner 'couldn't cope with them all'. He's got some slight neurological issues due to inbreeding, just makes him more interesting and fun!

Edit: Yes, thats a lot of underwear.

Socks is a Manx stubby with a tail about a hands width long

He is a Manx stumpy with just a tiny bump of a tail. You can also see their characteristic long legs.

Forced to get our 2 cats a few years ago by the Missus to keep her company while I worked away most of the week. Now I'm home I spend more time with the remaining one than she does. But enjoy the company of Samuel Catson (RIP) and Harrison Ford (her choice of names) and was pretty emotional when he died last Xmas.

And I'm a cold hearted bastard who deals with ill and dying people every day for a living. Guess I like animals more than people

My condolences, pop larkin.

Having lost, as I said above his photo, one of ours just before Christmas I soon realised that I just have to appreciate the ten years he enjoyed and remember how happy he was.

Here's ours as kittens (five years ago)

Sadly Mack, the tabby died last year. His brother, Pepper, is going strong.

Cheers mate- we've just had that conversation about the good times outweighing the pain at the end

'You can never do it a day too early but you can only do it a day too late...'

This is what the the equine vet said after euthanasing my wife's horse earlier this year.

So true...

@pop Larkin

[img] [/img]

my condolences. I had to have my cat muji put down in 2011 and I still find it a sad situation.

At least I gave him a proper burial in open woodland, even though it was done at 2am by torchlight, as we did not leave the vet until 11pm. I cannot think of a better place for a loved pet to be buried. I still pass his grave twice a week on my mountain bike rides.

Indeed - that's how we lost one just before Christmas. The only one that ventured across the road. We still ask ourselves what the alternative would have been... keep him cooped up inside and miserable all the time?

Timothy, The Devon Rex.

He's now a bit older and has a younger version to annoy him/hiss at, but I'll be buggered if I can get any decent shots of the new 'devil in a cat suit'!

Will now have eaten that box. Is amusing allergic to cats. Thinks she's a tiger. Fav game sitting on the top of something high and dive bombing her sisters head.

I'd have no monitor left if I played that fish tank video to my 2 little monsters.
