Or should I make more of an effort to use it.

I've a Sigma 30mm 1.4 that I bought a year or so ago, and to be honest I've rarely used it. Common sense says that it makes much more sense to sell it on to someone who'll use it and put the money towards something I will use (like new wheels) but it's just bloody lovely, and I don't want to part with it.

Make my decision for me o mighty STW hive mind.

If you don't use it, sell it.
I got rid of a 50mm, great optics shite construction, and an 85mm really beautiful but slow focussing last year.
I don't regret either sale.

Things like this are made to be used. If they are sitting gathering dust, this is a travesty, and makes you a hoarder.

If you love it, you will set it free.

Someone else out there really wants to use it.. like me for instance, I just bought one of those. I expect yours is not 4/3 mount tho.

Some stuff is not worth selling because the second hand value is lower than the items' residual worth to you. However lenses have a very high second hand value typically.

Nah it's Nikon. I think I'll have a look at prices on eBay and make a decision. I think half the problem is that it's almost TOO nice - my Tamron 28-75 or my 50mm 1.8 I have no qualms about just chucking in a backpack, this one I feel like I have to treat with kid gloves.

Surely you chuck it in a backpack protected....?

Wrapped in a tea towel / jumper usually, if that. A lot of my photography is in rain / mud / pigeon poo and sometimes involves falling off fences, it's amazing what the Tamron has survived. And as for my D60 body...

Get a proper flippin case! Or a weather-sealed body and lenses 🙂

Yeah... I probably should. Maybe I should try different types of photography to utilise it more!

I think it's Crumpler who now do neoprene skins for SLRs.

That lens wants to be taken into a pub or evening social situation I reckon. Mine will be used for family gatherings, sneaky flash free shots indoors, cute kid photos that kind of thing.

Aye it's perfect for that kind of thing, pretty good for gig photography too... Which I used to do loads, but don't really do any more!

Would also be good for street portrait type stuff, which IS something I want to try more.

Going up to people in the street and saying "hello, can I take your picture please?"

Or just stealth snapping, but I think I'd want something longer for that.

I am after a 30mm f1.4 so if you are selling it then I could save you Ebay fees!

I find stealth snapping is ace with my 40-150mm. It's usually family though, don't want to get into trouble 🙂

I can never quite figure out the equivalents on 4/3 stuff... Would that be slightly longer on a normal crop sensor?

Multiply by 2. Everything is twice as long.

EDIT: Twice as long as full frame that is, under 1/3rd longer than aps-c.

Yep crop factor of 2 on four thirds against 1.6 on Nikon.. I think... Which is why I am a little aprehensive when I get my 30mm that is more like a 60mm.. might not be wide enough for general stuff.

I set my kit lens to 30mm ish and I kept wanting to back up a lot.
