Mrsbeanz has half a dozen pairs of relatively expensive scissors, I can put a good edge on a knife but never tried scissors.
Anyone got any experience or ideas how to sharpen them ?
Imagine them like a really steep angled chisel. Use a stone and work from the outside towards the cutting edge to create slight overhanging burr, then, take the first cut on a bit of card or a few sheets of paper to remove excess swarfey bits. Work really flat and slow. If you gouge or round the cutting edge they are hard to bring back again!
If they have worn loose at the pivot, they can often be peened tight again with a few taps of a hammer.
Also, beware of the cutting wet and dry/ foil tips. It doesn't really work that well and risks buggering the blades by making it convex through abrading the inner face. Same reason that you sharpen a chisel on the angle towards the edge, rather than grinding it from the underside!
just cut up fine wet and dry paper soon put an edge on them.
Also, doesn’t the angle of the cutting edge alter from the pivot to the tip?
I have one of these which works well. You put the scissors in the holes and sort of close them up to force each side against the stone.
However, i use it for regular kitchen scissors, not 'expensive' ones.
Sometimes, CZ. Those little inch wide diamond sharpeners are really good for them
