[#10179892]

We're looking for a nice hotel in the Lakes - something a step up from the average. It's for my 50th birthday and we've looked at city breaks and the like, but what I really fancy is somewhere quiet, nice pubs and a walk up a great big hill!

So something right nice - but not in the mega-rich budget! 🙂

All areas considered.

We keep going back to the Langdale Spa. Nice pool for when its inevitably pissing down and the Langdale area is lovely. The cheapest rooms are a little small so its worth  spending a bit more.

Lenclume is pretty special. Easy access to all major fells and four other handy pubs and a pudding shop.

The Forest Side at grasmere - michelin level food but not crazy expensive. Walks from the door.

stayed last year and loved it, going back in April

The samling is pretty special I hear.

Weve booked a night there to celebrate mum wife’ 50th. Got a deal through secret escapes but still pretty darn pricey. We will stay somewhere more down market the second night!

Brimstone at the Langdale. Eat in the hotel one night and at the nearby Britannia pub another.

Some other good suggestions have already been made. You could also look at Holbeck Ghyll, Sharrow Bay and Armathwaite Hall.

We had a lovely weekend in a classic lakes hotel.  All planned, then the hotel got a conference booking so amended our plans.  Gosh they were generous with our amended plans.

Moral is, get everything agreed in writing.  Lakes is expensive everywhere you go.

Any of the above will be nice.

Rothay Gardens in Grasmere has a very usable spa and good food.  Stayed in April assuming the usual heavy rain - the spa was very welcome in the hot weather!

Lodore Falls is still being heavily renovated or have they finally finished?

More rustic charm than modern posh hotel though..

Plus tame red squirrels on your window sill in the morning..

Thanks for the suggestions folks - plenty to mull over there.

A couple to rule out as well as I'd probably need to buy a whole new wardrobe to fit in! 🙂

I didn’t like the Lodore Falls, I went to the Leathes Head up the road after one night.

You really need a dog for the Haweswater hotel, we were the only guests without one, felt quite left out...

L'Enclume is amazing, the food is out of this world. There's a lovely B&B close by (the Blue House) which is a lot cheaper and you can still get to Cartmel for dinner.
