New front tyres in January. Was looking under the car for an unrelated matter today and noticed the inner edges of the front tyres are severely worn. Any idea what's likely to have caused this? I obviously need new tyres (again) but want to find out what's causing the wear.
Wheel alignment. Good tyre place will be able to check and adjust.
Tracking / suspension wear / toe / camber.
Tracking - wheels are toed out.
Other causes, play in suspension joints and/or bushes. Under dampened shock absorbers.
What car? I'm just guessing at something from the vw/Audi group as these all seem very prone to wearing inner edges very quickly.
Suspension component wear of some sort would be my guess.
I had this problem earlier this year and it was the trailing arm bushes - they were buggered.
Also had the lower arms replaced as the bushes on those were shot.
Felt like a new car once i'd had all that done. Because they wear gradually you don't really notice the degradation in handling; just get used to it.
Speed humps? You know the ones tha seem to fit nicely between the wheels? Well, they don't always
Excessive camber caused by worn ball top or bottom ball joints.
Aye, alignment check but not just lasers-and-adjusters imo, you want someone that'll look for a cause rather than just a fix. No use fannying around with adjustment if the suspension's worn.
