Just got a new (to me) windows 10 laptop. Its got a pretty slow atom processor so I want to maximise speed and efficiency. Obviously getting rid of bloat ware and any trace of Norton but what else. Fancy graphic settings, cortana?
If it's got an Atom CPU it's probably got a gig of RAM too. Swapping that for a 2Gb stick would be a priority for me.
If it's a manufacturer's build, I'd wipe it and reinstall. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10
Coincidentally, I'm actually working on creating a de-bloated W10 installer right now. I'll stick a link up later if I get it working.
W10 is already pretty well optimised for these things. Fancy graphics settings should already be automatically set, and it doesn't have the transparency and stuff that 7 had.
I think you can turn off live tiles in start menu which might help a bit.
I have run it on one of the first ever Atoms, a Z520 from circa 2008. It ran very nicely - the biggest problem with using it was that modern websites are now so heavy that surfing was hard work, even though W10 itself ran fine.
Some tips here, I'd skip the registry tweeks unless you're confident:
