If I'm setting up an import company, buying in Spain and selling in the UK, where would be best to have the comapny registered, UK or Spain? Why?

You answered your own question, if you want to be an importer then set up a company in the UK. If you want to be an exporter set it up in Spain.

DWH- it's not perfect. Why?
Random- not necessarily clear cut as to where to base it, but I see where you're coming from.

Possibly both, if you want to do a bit of transfer pricing.

Its also worth considering where you can get grants and/or tax breaks. For instance you might be able to write off tax that you have already paid.

Definitely best to speak to an accountant with relevant experience.

Thanks, but I was hoping that someone with previous experience could point me in the direction of UK or Spain, rather than wasting time talking to both Spanish and UK accountants.

Also depends on who will distribute the products in the UK?

Having a UK co. could add an unnecessary step to the end customer.

You could set up in both countries and price the sales to the UK co. according to the most tax efficient way - ie, highest profit made by the UK or Spanish company?
