As title really. On the DVLA site I can see that the buyer can register the vehicle in his name by using form V62 'application for a registration certificate' but I cannot see a doc that allows me to inform them that the car has been sold and that I am no longer the owner.

Any car selling hexperts here?

Why not just apply for a new V5 and then you won't have the problem... 🙂

Thank you car hexpert... :p

According the DVLA I don't need to do that, just print out and fill in the v62 and create some kind of "receipt" stating time and date of sale and to get the buyers signature.

Whatever you end up doing, my advice would be to send documentation to the DVLA via Recorded Delivery and keep copies.

I sold a car (to someone on here) in Jan, sent documentation through to the DVLA, had an acknowledgement back, then 2 weeks later received a prosecution notice from DVLA because I hadn't notified them of change of ownership. Data integrity does not appear to be their strong point...

it's a gov organisation - what did you expect! 🙂
FWIW i notified them by sending a nice letter, when i gave my golf to my nephew, but aside from that, who's going to buy a car with no V5?

Well seeing as there's a whole section on the DVLA site about selling/buying a car with a lost or damaged v5, lots! It's not like it's a prestige model or a high powered sports car, it's just a runabout with 6 months MOT left on.
