I have a Longines Hydroconquest auto I’m planning to sell but not sure what’s the best way

The value of around £700ish means fb marketplace etc is best avoided but I’m not sure about specialist websites like Chrono24 etc; certification seems a bit overkill for a watch of this value- that suits a £10k Rolex

I’ve called a few local jewelers but they’re not interested. I don’t sell much on eBay so don’t have much of a seller profile, and I imagine this might put buyers off.

Sorry if this is a dumb question!

One way to find out.

Depends on your attitude to risk, for example getting "lost in the post" Vs selling for less at a local auction?

Stick some pictures on the watches n+1 thread. There's been a few bought and sold on there, I'm actually wearing my lovely vintage Seamaster purchased off there as I type this.

A stealth ad on the forum often brings the desired result... 😉

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your watch isn't worth as much as you would like.

Yes I accept price is part of the selling negotiation but they didn’t even offer a lowball price.

I’ll have a look at the n+1 thread, thanks for that suggestion

As a person who’s bought rather too many fancy watches over the years, I’d be looking at eBay myself.  I’ve bought all sorts off there for yours selling price and many multiples of it.

Jewellers don’t want it because there’s no margin in it, just like grey dealers, Watch trader and the like, who might do you buy or consignment offer, but will offer pennies on the pound for non high luxury brands like Longines, because they just don’t sell that easily.

eBay allows you to sell or not at a price that suits you.  Just take loads of photos to prove condition and make sure you’re well insured when posting.

Have a look on eBay to see what similar watches are going for. There's a few I can see upwards of $600 AUD, so 700 quid might be a little optimistic.

I was going to suggest eBay too.

You’re a bit stuck in the middle. It’s a nice watch and it’s worth a decent amount of money, however it’s not worth enough that there’s a decent margin for a middleman.

You’ll have the same problem at an auction. Unless there’s someone there who particularly wants your particular watch, it’ll be dealers looking to pick it up for not much money.

Maybe get some decent pics and an ad up on eBay soonish, seeing as it's Christmas soon you never know. Make sure the auction ends at a time like a Fri or Sat night around midnight and you might be able to catch the drinking eBayer's for a drunk purchase. (We've all been there, right? That email the next day, Congrats on your purchase!!   wtf??? 😀

Best of luck eh!
